This happens all the time. Judges (and their more diminutive and less grandiose little sidekicks, "magistrates") make errors in law that are very often shown up when their judgements are appealed.

In my job, I have to make decisions at times in seconds. If I make what is perceived as an error, lawyers can sue me and judges can take away everything I own.

Judges make mistakes all the time. Very often, to make matters worse, they have taken weeks or months to make their wrong decision. Their wrong decisions can deprive people of their liberty, livelihood, all of their money and possessions, or even access to their biological family. Very high stakes.

Are they ever punished for these mistakes? No. Can they be sued? No. Do they ever show remorse for their blunders that so profoundly affect the human beings who find themselves at their mercy? No.

Gutless wankers, all of them. Many of them also paedophiles.

Exactly. When are the the lawyers and people supposedly managing people with any type of profile going to get the message that said profile is no longer an acceptable excuse for stuffing around the lawmakers.

They are given a court time - be prompt and it over and done with with a minimum of fuss, rather then being late and rightly being made an example of and told in no uncertain terms that the magistrate doesn't give a shit about their profile and they can't expect special treatment.

Far out, surely Carney and Co have been in front of the courts enough to figure that one out.

If I pay my hard earned for a membership, I at least want the club to go to the effort of having our best player at the courthouse at least 30 minutes before sentencing. Is that too much to ask? I mean correct me if I'm wrong, but if the magistrate got out of the wrong side of the bed, or Carney got caught in traffic, we could quite easily be in the position where our title hopes are shot. How about the clubs start showing the fans a little ****ing respect (excuse the language) and start realising that a lot of our time, money, effort, hope and pride goes into the club. We deserve just that little bit more I would say.

Not withstanding my previous comments about the dubious quality of human being attracted to being on our judiciary, if I found myself having to appear before one of the social-climbing, power-drunk scumbags I would make bloody sure I didn't give them an extra motive to fist me by turning up late!

Spot on mate. Why would anyone want to make a situation like Todd's worse than it already is by pissing off a magistrate by being late. In my opinion an hour early would be on time in my mind for a court appearance where I am in the shit. Judges/magistrates are moody and can often hand out punishments based on their judgement (ie. moods, personal prejudices, people who have annoyed them in the past, their perception of the defendant's attitude, family background, level of education, social status, etc.).

Usually court the times are waaaay off. Carney's hearing wouldn't have been at 9 because they do all the people remanded in custody first (you really are wasting your time coming 30 minutes early.) They also get hit with a huge logjam of randoms who have done nothing and are confused but were "arrested" the night before and held in the watchhouse. The cops look dumb if they charge somebody then don't follow through (and can get in trouble) so push all these guys into court where they are all bailed and given a mediation date.

Turn up at 9 and I can guarantee you will be waiting for at least 2 hours. We're talking public servants here as well! (Prosecutors, Magistrates, Court Officers, Correctional Officers and Police.) They all love hanging around doing nothing while getting paid. The cops also play this game of being there in big numbers just for the presence thing. You'll waste another 1/2 hour while the magistrate tells them they are not needed unless they are a witness and should go back to the beat instead of loitering.

So yeah... turning up right on time (or a little late) if fine.

How about he get the transcripts of the trial held in my home town where a well known and influential local businessman appeared before the judge on his 3rd drink driving matter after blowing 0.11 with his two young children in the car and for the third time, no conviction was recorded and he was let off scot-free. The reason.....its a beauty....he was suffering severe stress due to the effect the long running drought was having on his business!!!!

Yes, if Todd has his licence suspended for 5 years, there wouldn't want to have been one person the RTA or the courts have not applied the 'Habitual offender" law to...not one...or the courts, the law, and all those dispensing it will look to not be dispensing justice with an even hand.

How you can really be guilty of the offence...have no conviction recorded, and then have your licence suspended for 5 years because it's your third drink driving offence in 5 years...I have no idea.
Surely 'no conviction' in the courts is 'no conviction'.
We'll have to wait and see if the magistrate erred and must have invoked the 'habitual offender law'.
When did we get mandatory sentencing in NSW?

Hadley has admitted on air to drink driving in his youth.

Trouble is, the law is the law, and he's running a very public radio show and lawyers email him...everything today is on open display, nothing can be hidden.
He does seem to have a bias against the Roosters and our players though.
