  • Todd Carney Playing One Legged

All I'm hearing on this forum and from my mates is how out of form Carney is...nothing to do with that imo.

He's clearly playing on one leg. Can't do his big sidesteps when he's probing across field. Knows he has no lateral movement so he's rushing up in defence and getting shown up like a 5 year old. It's pretty sad to see but obviously they think it's not gonna do him any good sitting on the sideline so they may as well play him cos he still seems to be offering more in attack than Pearce (sadly).

I bet my bottom dollar he won't be fully fit for some time. Might even be getting needled up right now to play.

Have to find a way to win this year without carnage magic. Play BJ closer to the attack and have some speedy men bursting off Mose's offloads (no-one following him right now). Payne+Barba killed us with that today.

He should have returned via the bench like originally named, he's clearly not ready for 80 mins of first grade every week.

I think he is definitely being rushed back to play, he is our main goal kicker and he isn't taking the shots, In saying that he has missed the whole of pre-season and he could be not match fit yet. I'd rather he get his injury right and sitout games then play on one leg. It's a concern considering Mitchell Pearce has been very predictable in attack.

I don't think he has been rushed back or is playing on one leg.

What we have to realise is that he hasn't had much of a pre season so he is still rusty.

The only way to find form and fitness is by playing, he will come good.

I agree. It would be nice to have a dry surface also.

If he was just rusty/out-of-form but fully fit then he would be doing the goal kicking...

Doesn't explain his horrid defence which was more of a problem yesterday imo

Pretty obvious Carney has either lost a lot of strength or is still carrying the injury.

If he was still feeling his groin I doubt the medicos would let him play. We went ok without him against the bunnies. I think it is more to do with match fitness and being a little rusty. Probably why the dogs targeted him in defense. Last week he hardly made a run. Yesterday he took the ball a lot more and was running across field as he did last year. He is getting better.

If Carney wasn't out there we would have been lucky to score a point.

He has had no off season. Give the bloke a break.

Carney will improve with every game. I understand that he is being "rested" from the strain and responsibility of goal kicking, but with Anasta struggling and missed goals costing us games, why aren't we using Riddell????????

You are a hard marker. He missed 2 from the side line and got 2 from the side line. Overall Anasta has a decent strike rate. Do you think Carney would have got 4 from 4? Riddell missed 2 kicks in the trials from very kickable positions and he plays for 20 minutes. I heard Justin Carney is a very good goal kicker so maybe he will be given the job next week.

An excellent point Maggie answered by Riddell's lack of minutes.
I hear Leilua can kick too and surely he can't be worse than Anasta.

As for Carney, his performance yesterday was one off the bottom shelf (by his standards) but I'm not going to hang out him out to dry. Virtually the whole team (and coaching staff) are giving me the sh1ts at the moment because it looks like they've gone backwards.
