  • Discussion thread Round 2 2011 Sydney Roosters Vs Manly

Sydney Football Stadium, Sunday 3pm (AEDT)
Last meeting: Roosters 30-14 at Sydney Football Stadium (rd 25, 2010)
    Stats: Head-to-head
Referees: Ben Cummins, Tony De Las Heras
    TV: Delayed, Channel 9 (4pm)
TAB Sportsbet: Roosters $1.28, Sea Eagles $3.65
    FootyTab: Sea Eagles +8.5

Greg Prichard writes: The Roosters received a valuable reminder that it is an 80-minute game in the first round against the Rabbitohs. They built a 28-6 lead, but then ended up falling behind, 29-28. Fortunately for the Roosters, it was them who handled the closing stages better, and a couple of Tom Symonds tries gave them a 40-29 win. The Sea Eagles went on the road against the Storm, and found it difficult. They remained committed throughout, but made a few too many mistakes and struggled to break down the opposition defence, losing 18-6.

The Sea Eagles lost centre Jamie Lyon to injury and prop Jason King to suspension on top of that defeat. Their depth is already being tested, and the Roosters look to have a much stronger bench than them going into this game. Star fullback Brett Stewart, who hasn't played much in the last two years because of injury, was finding his feet against the Storm, and will need more time to get back to his best form. The Sea Eagles are going to have to improve to compete with the Roosters, who have attackers all over the field.

    ROOSTERS:

    I would omit Riddell.

Simply put, you must always play your best 17 players. Riddell is the 18th best player out of the players named. Start Carney on the bench, and once he comes on, shift Anasta into the forward pack.

I would start Symonds over Nuuausala though.

    1. Minichiello
    2. Perrett
    3. Kenny-Dowall
    4. Linnett
    5. Leilua
    6. Anasta
    7. Pearce
    8. Ryles
    9. Friend
    10. Kennedy
    17. Symonds
    12. Aubusson
    13. Myles

    11. Nuuausala
    14. Hargreaves
    15. Masoe
    18. Carney

Symonds will not play as Riddell will start.

Can't wait to watch Marty "D9" Kennedy rip into the Womanly forwards tomorrow. Our forwards are more awesome than the Miz.

          Chook.

The Sydney Roosters expect Manly will try to make up for the absence of a host of their stars with a full-on physical assault in Sunday's NRL clash at the Sydney Football Stadium.

It's going to be a tough slog today with this weather!
It hasn't stopped raining and the union would have chopped up the surface a bit last night!
I'm a little worried that our big boys will struggle with sideways mobility today.
We need to bash them out of the game early!

very surprised that Manly are now $4 head to head in today's match given the weather conditions, they will love the wet weather it will dull the effects of our skill positions.

also after the Tigers average start to the season we are now second favourites to win the comp.

Why would the wet weather suit manly ??? they like to throw the ball around too.

Difference is, their most prominent and effective forwards are out injured, would that not nullify their attack in a long drawn out forwards battle? hence the $4 odds
