  • Carney's fate decided on Friday

The fallout from Todd Carney's drink-driving charge is set to overshadow the NRL season launch on Wednesday, with no resolution expected until Friday.

The Sydney Roosters five-eighth, who was charged with low-range drink-driving on Saturday morning while on a provisional licence, has yet to be handed any punishment.

Carney met with Roosters coach Brian Smith and chief executive Steve Noyce on Monday, but the club were unable to reveal any decisions on his punishment on Tuesday with Noyce absent due to a NRL CEO conference in Sydney.

It's understood Carney's situation was not raised at the conference.

The club released a statement on Tuesday suggesting no decision was likely until Friday.

"The Sydney Roosters are continuing to assess appropriate outcomes in regards to Todd Carney and will not be making a final decision today (Tuesday) on his penalty following his low-range drink-driving offence," the statement read.

"Whilst the club wishes to reach a solution to this matter in a timely fashion, we need to ensure we assess what is best for the player, the club and the NRL before committing to that conclusion.

"It is anticipated that a final decision will be made by Friday."

NRL CEO David Gallop had hoped to meet Carney face-to-face this week to discuss his place in the game and his battle with alcohol.

But an NRL spokesman said this would need to take place later in the week, due to the season launch taking place on Wednesday.

Carney, the reigning Dally M medal winner, had already been stripped off any official role in launching the season at the Casula Powerhouse on Wednesday due to his latest indiscretion.

His fate was decided by Nick about 10 minutes after he found out about the indiscretion tbh.
