  • Dui a blessing???????????

Carneys DUI could be the wake up the roosters team needed, going into 2011 with now a bigger point to prove. Carney now needs to make amends firstly off the field,He will also be out to prove his worth again to the roosters faithfull on the field! The team not only want and need Carney they went through the media circus of 2010 with the no,6, and came out the other side grand finalist.this built a team culture that will stand by Carney no matter what!!!! This is the kick in the arse the roosters needed to REIGNITE THE HUNGER TO WORK HARDER AND PROVE 2010 WAS A STEPPING STONE TO 2011.... GO THE ROOSTERS!!!!!!!!!!!

i dunno if it was a "blessing" necessarily", but i agree we did need a wake up call. One thing's for sure, we're stuffed without carney; pearce can only do so much (evident in the teams shocking performance in the foundation cup match). And although i think keirallah is a great talent, in no way is he a worthy substitute for todd.

In all of our trial matches, but especially in last night's game, we looked nothing like the team that got to the grand final last year, and i don't buy into all the talk about the tigers having a great game, they too were poor, just not as bad as us. Had anasta converted Bj's tries we would've only lost by 1 try and 1 field goal (also why wasn't BJ kicking- he's a better kicker imo). I admit there were a few bad referee decisions against us that cost us a few points, but we've gotta cop it, that's bound to happen atleast every second week of the comp.

Our defence in general was very poor (except goal line defence) and in attack we were going sideways all night, hot potato football for the majority of the game and although sometimes that yields points, more often it leads to nothing but errors, loss of meters and turnovers.

Most worrying was when pearce went off the field and our attack went form bad to disgraceful, what happens when origin swings around and we don;t have todd or mitchell? Are we expecting watts and Anasta to magically fill in their boots? (especially considering watts would have just returned form injury :O)

Very few players impressed me throughout these trial games, and even fewer looked like the players they were in 2010. I know they're trial matches and the purpose of them is to get the cobwebs out and get set for the season, but it seemed as though every player had huge cobwebs and by the end of the trials it doesn't seem as though many of them have gotten rid of them. :O

I don't wanna sound negative, but i was really positive about this season about 3 weeks ago, but now i'm not too sure. Hopefully it doesn't last long, and hopefully smithy uses the time we have before round 1 to really get this mob up to scratch, atleast slightly resembling the side that tore teams apart in 2010.

We need a wake up call after two trials and 3 weeks before a ball is kicked off???

I suppose we can join the Raiders and Panthers supporters for Mad Monday tomorrow.

Chill out guys, half way through last year I gave us little hope of getting to the second week of the finals. It's a long year and we have much more depth than last year and a year's experience with all the guys playing together. Players like Kennedy, Masoe, Symonds, Linnett and BJ will improve on last year. The combination of Carney, JJ and Friend will also be better for one year together. Justin Carney and Watts will be dynamite for the team's balance. Yet after a trial game some are writing us off already. There was a lot to like about yesterday's trial. We are in better shape than we were at the start of last season.

          GO THE CHOOKIES!!!!!

Hahaha wish i shared your positive view on everything, but i don't agree with you when you say we're in better shape than last year! Sure we "should" be in better shape, given we've recruited well and all the players have had a full pre-season of training under their belts, but nothing i've seen over the last few weeks both on and off the field have reflected this. And i;m not writing us off by any means, i'm confident we will do well again this season, it's just not a good start, and a good start can mean the difference between bowing out in week 1 of the finals or going all the way to the big one.

I usually don't read too much into trial matches, but it's not just the poor showings on field i'm worried about. There seems to be a bit of unrest in the club: smithy's not his cheerful/cheeky self (in interviews and press conferences), a number of contract talks have been stretched out for ages now (SKD, anasta etc.) and ofcourse the recent drink driving fiasco.

As i said before, i hope i'm just overreacting or looking too much into things, but the team just doesn't have the same feeling that it did at the end of last year...or even the start of last year to be honest.

Two things in particular that really caught my attention were steve noyce talking on the radio about the carney incident: he sounded very disappointed and very angry (as you'd expect, but he really emphasized the fact that this was a really bad time for something like this to happen- so close to the start of the season) and the other was smithy's press conference after saturday's game where he seemed irritated when talking about the carney incident - I also saw somewhere that he had spoken with carney's mother prior to the DUI charges, concerned about todd getting back on the drink. Now its not everyday that a coach approaches the mother of one of his players...

Saturday FC performance wasn,t bad considering the try,s that the ref allowed and disallowed, plus the possibility of the DUI distraction.....
