  • Brian Smith showing signs of stress already

not sure if its a bit early to read anything into it, but there is a marked difference in the media approach of Brian Smith compared to last year, he seems very uptight and stressed this year compared to a more approachable and jovial approach employed with the media last year, this was not only the case last night but a few more interviews/media conference's he has done recently.

perhaps this whole Carney saga is starting to take its toll on Smith he was pretty scathing of Carney post match last night and apparently saw the early warning signs and approached Carney's mum to get involved after seeing he was falling off the rails again.

Understandable. Loosing Cherro for the season and two trial matches, Carney's DUI, 2010 = no expectations whereas 2011 there are now huge expectations. Smith knows he has get this team to perform.

    Chook.

I was surprised at the shot he had at Carney last night, these things better to be dealt with in house, it is a fast track way to cause friction within the squad.

Smithy has a wealth of experience I'm confident he will handle it in the right way.

Smithy was always going to be asked about it and it was public knowledge. A public display of dissappointment was probably warranted so the rest of the squad finally gets the ****ing message.

          Chook.

FWIW Carney committed a criminal offence, he admitted to it and there is clear evidence that he did it. If the NRL, Smith and Carney don't take it seriously, he could go to gaol. Probably won't, but he has re-offended within 10 years of his last convictions (which were more serious.) I'm not trying to be a lawyer, I'm just talking from experience having gone through the courts for 6 heart wrenching months in order to prove my innocence. During this time I saw lots of other cases... so I'm worried for Todd. The police and prosecutors will be asking for his head over the next few months! Courts are slow and stressful... Todd's gonna be tested and will have to prove he's more than just a lousy re-offending crim. (Okay not hard because he is TODD CARNEY but still... I reckon he'd be sweating right now coz it's all up to 1 judge and gaol would be on the cards.)

I don't really think we CAN just brush over it... the courts will probably consider the NRLs disciplinary actions when sentencing. If the judge says "you've lost no reputation... in fact you are a hero, and you/your mates don't seem to see how serious this is..." he would have really serious prospects of going to gaol.

While I want him back in round 1, I think the NRL/Roosters have to suspend him for his own good

The is a rumour hitting the grounds that Carney and Smith have had a falling out due to Carney getting in trouble while being on the drink.
