    FUUUARRRKKKK what arms..

AFTER tackling drug lords as a member of the Fijian SWAT team, busting through an NRL defensive line should be easy for Melbourne Storm recruit Sisa Waqa.

Waqa, 24, on a three-month trial, hopes some polished trial game performances land him a contract and he avoids returning to uniform.

He spent almost 18 months on the Fijian police tactical response team because the police hierarchy wanted him to play on their team. But training was less about running drills and more about drilling drug runners.

"We got involved in raids; we'd go after some big drug lord," Waqa said this week.

"But Fiji's not like here, there were no guns, we'd just go in and arrest them."

For Waqa, though, the adrenalin rush of police work couldn't match his passion for a rugby career.

He left Fiji in 2008 to play club rugby in Sydney, scoring 26 tries in 18 games for Gordon and catching the eye of the ACT Brumbies, who signed him to play Super Rugby.

But the Australian Rugby Union scuppered the deal because he had played three Tests for his homeland and was deemed to be an international.

Fortunately, the Sydney Roosters wanted him, too, and, after playing eight games, he secured a three-year deal with French Top 14 club Montauban.

But as he was preparing to pack up his wife and two young sons the club was relegated and forced to cut players for exceeding their salary cap.

So Waqa found himself back in Sydney playing for Southern Districts until a friend of his coach who knew Craig Bellamy gave the Melbourne Storm boss a call.

He was granted the trial, moved his family to Melbourne, and has impressed enough to be selected in tomorrow's trial in Brisbane where a bold showing could secure the 96kg winger that asought-after contract.

"I'm focusing on this right now, not just for me but for my family, and I'll see what happens," Waqa said.

He is unsure of Bellamy's plans for him beyond a start tomorrow but he has felt a positive vibe from the coach.

"It's a big thing for me and my family to play here with some of these big names and in the Australian competition. I'm very lucky," he said.

"Rugby doesn't pay well in Fiji. And I think I've got a good future in rugby league."

He needed more time to learn the game before being thrown into first grade

It's a shame they didn't persist with Sisa at the Roosters. After all, they give The Code a few years to learn the game.

Oh and Geo, agree about the arms on the guy. He hasn't lost any muscle since his Rooster days it seems.

                Gifted with great genetics.

                Pea-sized heart.

Tried to avoid contact each time he ran the ball.

I've never seen a more terrified man on a footy field than Sissy Waqa..

The whites of his eyes were like dinner plates when he had to make a tackle..

I hope he is on the wing when we play the drizzle..Pearce & Carney would rack up 60 odd points just running plays down his side of the field..

A lot of your posts consist of:

                      "lol...

                      delusional"

                      Or some variant.

You could do well taking your own advice.

                        This pisses me off.

Sisa is an amazing talent. We did him wrongly.

I think he will come back to bite us.

According to Sisa himself, he was carrying injuries, but the club doctors didn't believe him (sounds odd, I know). When he was injured ealry on in the Dragons game, he refused to play on as he didn't want to do further damage. This apparently pissed everyone off, including other players, and it was all downhill from there.

It does sound like he may be a little socially awkward, but the guy is a freak! If Bellamy can get his head straight, he will be one of the best wingers going around.
