  • Anasta holding Braith on new deal

HE WAS a clear favourite with the kids at Sydney Football Stadium yesterday - now all Roosters skipper Braith Anasta has to do is remain sweet with the Bondi hierarchy to secure a new deal.

Anasta said yesterday he was no closer to a new deal beyond 2011 and would let his football do the talking. He told officials the drawn-out negotiations could hurt the Roosters' early campaign, but it was out of his hands.

"I told them I'm the captain and there will be speculation; it's not a position I want to be in or I'm comfortable with, but the rest of it is out of my control," Anasta said.

"They want me to stay but I won't be getting offered a contract for a couple of months.

"It's about the salary cap and working out the [club's] books - and whether they can offer me a contract, and how much that will be.

"I spoke with Nick [Politis]. There was a lot of garbage being written, a lot of speculation, but it is what it is.

"I'm not too worried. I'll try to play out of my skin and secure a deal somewhere, ideally here."

WHILE Anasta tries to sort out his future, it seems Anthony Minichiello is nicely settled and all but ready to extend his stay at the Chooks until the end of 2012.

He wined and dined fiancee Terry Biviano at Guillaume at Bennelong for Valentines Day.

He knows he just has to play well and that is all he should be thinking about. Stop talking to the media Braith.

Interesting that none of the quotes actually said that.

WEEKS after Sydney Roosters captain Braith Anasta all but gave up on a swansong with the club he lead to a grand final appearance last year, he is now confident of re-signing with the Bondi-based club.

PrevNextWith his manager Greg Willett deep in negotiations, the Dally M captain of the year has told sportsnewsfirst.com.au he is close extending his tenure with the tri-colours.

“I’ve been talking with the club and hopefully we’ll get it sorted out behind closed doors as soon as possible,” he said.

            “I’m confident (of staying here).”

Both Anasta and the club have put the earlier break downs of negotiations behind them, moving forward with a new agreement.

“Everything that’s been said has been said, but hopefully in the next couple of months I can re sign here, that’s the goal,” Anasta said.

To get specific the former Bulldog is hopeful of signing a new deal in early April although his management are pushing for the documents to be drawn up even earlier.

The length of the deal remains the biggest hurdle at present, with the back rower stating it is “still up for negotiation.”

And the premiership winning five-eighth hasn’t conceded this deal will see him until the end of his career.

“I feel really good, I’ve at least got a couple years so I’d love to get a few and worry about if I’m going to play after that,” he said.

“The way the body is, I feel fresher than the last few years so I’ve got a good couple of years left in me yet.”

He has however ruled out a Super League farewell and will end his career in the NRL when the time comes.

“I love Australia too much, I’ve grown up here and love it here, I love the NRL and would like to play my career out here.”
