An MRI today has confirmed twenty two year old Roosters forward Anthony Cherrington did tear his left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), in Saturday’s trial against the Bulldogs.
In a cruel twist of fate the injury occurred in only the youngster’s second match back after tearing his right ACL in a trial match last season.
Cherrington will undergo surgery in the next few days and will miss the rest of the season.
“It is just incredibly disappointing because I really just wanted to be out on the field playing again because I miss it,” Cherrington said of the injury.
“As soon as I went down I knew I had done the same injury but I was just shocked that it was the other knee but what can you do this is football.”
Cherrington is contracted to the club to the end of the 2012 season and says he is confident he can return to his best before then.
Determined not be too down about the injury, Cherrington is choosing to focus on the positives in his life at the moment.
“It’s not all doom and gloom I am still expecting a baby this year with my partner and I guess now I will have a little more time to spend with the youngster.”
The junior Kiwi international is also looking to gain some qualifications over the next year, enrolling to become a swim teacher through AUSTSWIM, with the aim of teaching children in the Mount Druitt area.
So despite the bad news, there is still plenty to look forward too for Anthony Cherrington in 2011.
