It was nearly exactly a year to the day Sydney Roosters youngster Anthony Cherrington snapped his right ACL playing in a trial match against Parramatta.
An entire season followed, a very successful one at that, and Cherrington had to sit and watch as the physio room became his playing field.
Fortunately for the 22 year old that all ended last Saturday night, when he ran out against the Ipswich Jets to test the knee that is once again allowing him to charge at the opposition.
Despite the nerves just before kick-off Cherrington got through the match without problem.
I was just so relieved to get through the match as it was always going to be the biggest hurdle, he said.
The knee was a little bit stiff and sore after the match but the medical team told me that is to be expected so I am just ready to keep playing now.
Despite all his setbacks, big things are expected from Cherrington, but for now he just wants to play the sport he loves.
I just want to get back on the field regularly no matter what grade I am playing I just want to be out there with the boys giving it my all. he said.
Should he stay fit and healthy, one gets the feeling there is only one particular grade the exciting young back-rower will find himself in.
