I'm sure he himself realises that his current contract is unaffordable and unrealistic to maintain at the same price.

What I think he is disillusioned and hurt about is that the Roosters aren't willing at this stage to even offer him something on reduced payments.

The line you've referred to: 'We won't stop you from getting more money at another club" I've understood differently. To me it is the management saying that "look, we might keep you on something much reduced though we don't give a shit if you run off somewhere. Frankly, your not really a feature in our future plans." Hardly what I'd call selfless.

Anyway, things well settle themselves eventually. I just hope the fallout doesn't impact what looked to be an incredibly promising season in 2011.
It's one of them statements that can be read with a glass half full or glass half empty.

It's hard for either one of us to be correct without hearing the tone that was used.

But as per usual the media have spun it around taking the half empty stance. For all we know, there couldve been more said then what was reported. Take for example this line.

"Braith, we understand you want to see your career ending with the Roosters and we feel the same. However, you know as much as anyone that in the end, your current contract is no longer practically feasable. We wouldn't want to see you have a life style change due to a change in your financial situation. Therefore, if you are able to obtain a larger contract else where, we wont stop you".

All that could have been said, although only the last bit has been reported. If it was actually said or not I have no idea and neither do alot of people.

I just find it weird that everyone on here usually smashes the media saying they are hyping everything up.

    • I don't see how the Roosters club can be criticised for not entering into negotiations for 2012 onwards when a ball hasn't been kicked for 2001 yet!

This is all about Anasta's manager trying to get his percentage cut done and dusted before kickoff in 2011 and nothing more.

Most experienced players have their later year contracts sorted out mid season and not before. And that's the way it should be, prove that you are still worth what money you are asking for, even if it is a lot less than you previously earned.

What happens now is really up to Braith - he can perform to a standard where the Club are happy to sign him up to an extension or he can let the situation affect his performances and take the risk that not only will the Roosters not require him, but a number of other clubs won't either.

Playing this out in the media was not a good idea by the Anasta camp, it puts a hell of a lot of pressure on him from the trials onwards.

I'd love the guy to stay for another year or two, but the reality is that at this stage of his career, he has to make a lot of sacrifices to stay, as do many senior players at clubs. And they don't all get the fairy tale end either - ie; Nathan Cayless.

        which is fair enough
He will take a cut to stay - without doubt.

The real question is whether they actually want him.

        • To Roosters management,

People of stature in the NRL talk of how loyalty has been missing within the code and desperately needs to be fixed. Yet the Roosters after a great 2010 season boosting respect for the club and keeping out of trouble in general, have now sunk again. Throwing Braith out after a fantastic 2010 season. Not only is he the team captain but he's the club captain too! What kind of message is this sending to the kids that we're (the NRL and community) trying to teach respect and loyalty to? I'll tell you. It's saying get what you can while you can. So much for respect and loyalty.
I may not know all the ins and outs of what happened as I'm not on the board at the Roosters nor am I Braith's best mate but I'm pretty sure you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out.
I love my Roosters but I feel really let down, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

          Sorry Braith, you deserved better.

          Sincerely pissed off,
          Benny.

          • It is ridiculous that our dirty laundry is out in the media. Some may blame his manager but it is clear the quotes are from Braith's mouth. It will only hurt his chances if it gets on the wrong side of the board.

Of all the commentators, the best comment came from Freddie.

Former Roosters coach Brad Fittler said Anasta can force the club's hand by delivering on the field.

"I just just think he's got to start the year well," Fittler said. "It's great motivation for him, so if he turns the focus on to his footy he'll do great."

It would be far better for Braith to say that he will prove he is worth an extension on the field, not through the media.

Wasn't Mini in a similar boat and he proved himself on the field and got an extension?

            • Why are people calling the club disloyal? Anasta is still contracted for 2011, they haven't axed him

                      Exactly.

As captain and as someone who supposedly wants to stay at the club, he shouldn't be talking to the media about contract issues that are still a season away.

The season hasn't even started yet!
