I love Maubs for two of the best memories i have had has a Rooster supporter in years. The two last tries against Souths and the dogs. Man tears.
You may be right Horry. Sounds like Maubs is definitely part of Smith's plans but looks like he may prefer some of the other guys in the backrow IF (and he did stipulate that) they showed some form in the trials.

That is terrific news about Watts if he can get back sometime between round 7-10! Watts will be very handy to have back in time for SOO period. He could play halfback while Mitch is on SOO duties?

Maybe Brian Smith thinks that we might not be able to carry 2 light weight backrowers in Anasta and Maubbs?

the lightweight backrow is my major concern and was our undoing at times at the backend of the season particularly in terms of workrate both in attack and defence and therefore i would understand it completely if maubs was shifted to the centres this year and then once anasta leaves/retires, he can move back into the backrow and play that dynamic role. lots of headaches but good ones of course.

I know we have plenty of backrowers but on masoe, i think he would offer best value for us as more of a backrower in the mason mold - steamroller as we have plenty of impact type prop forwards like JWH and Tasi so this could be why smith is trimming him down

              Copy that.
I've been a fan of Maubs since the first time i saw (GF years ago, maybe the 2004 Flegg?), when he was playing centre.
He's never been a dynamic centre, due to size and speed, but he can read the play and is very safe in defence.
Also last yr, Anastabor set up a lot of tries (16 I think) down that LHS channel with Maubs outside him, so it's a proven combination.
He's a classic player that B Smiff likes to have in his teams, safe and reliable, who have a good enough footy brain to enable them/and/or the team to capitalise off the class of the good ball players, of which we have three.

After the year that Maubs had in the backrow, it would be a tragedy if he was put back in the centres.

Maubs/Anasta/Myles is the best backrow we can field.

Also dissapointed that BJ will stay on the wing. I thought he will be groomed into a backrower off the bat. If injury is a concern(because of his age), just have him coming off the bench. Judging from last season, he had no problems mixing and matching with the opposition down the fringes. He was actually outstanding given his lack of experience.

It would be a crime giving Cherrington a starting position given his limited gametime due to injuries. Should be forced to work his way back into the squad.

Great work Roosterfarian and very much appreciated.

Man, what headaches the team composition is looking like causing Brian, especially the backrow and two of the backs. The plethora of second rowers on roster will surely see the Roosters lose some players due to lack of opportunity.

As for MAubs back to centres and Leilua at wing, oh dear. Nevertheless, I trust (hope ) Brian knows what he's doing.

                      Here is my summary:

Spoke to Smithy at length again and he had some interesting things to say.

                      - Threw up Mich Aubo as a POSSIBLE starter in the centres this year depending on how the fight for the back-row goes. Also said that Justin Carney/Phil Graham had been training there. He must really value Linnett.
                      - Couldnt believe the amount of depth we had in the forwards. Cherro has been training the house down. Kept going on about his size.
                      - When I asked who out of the young guys has impressed - Cordner straight away. Said he will DEF play first grade this year barring injury but will start in NYC.
                      - Will continue the BJ at wing experiment. Said he doesnt want to throw him around positions like last year and has settled at wing.
                      - Kennedy will sign in the next few days.
                      - Spoke in length about Lami Tasi who will start in Newtown but was a big lump of a lad with great footwork and an all round frontrowers game. Also threw up Ethan Lowe as a bolter.
                      - Spoke about Blair. Still a work in progress and had to work on his fitness. May move into the forwards.

Also spoke to JWH who is a great fella (even introduced himself like I didnt know who he was!). Told me that Watts (who was at the clinic running drills) is ahead of schedule and will be back round 7-10.
JWH said he doesnt mind if he doesnt start games as long as he gets enough minutes.

Sounds like a big focus on defence this year (especially from the forwards who have been working together) as they all know they can turn it on in attack.

That's all from me - if you can't be good..be good at it!
                      Boring..zzzzzzz
                      The REAL! Spanner, never forgotten.

Also, good to see they're concentrating on defense this year.

I'm told that Costin has brought a new defensive structure to the team this year. If the players perfect it, they will have one of the best defensive records.

                            My thoughts as well.
If coach Smith decides to play Maubs with the number 4 on his back for 2011 it would not be a demonstrative change to our team.
I say that considering his match winners against Souffs & the Dogs playing deep & out-wide & he showed top footwork to score in the GF.
This will enable Smith to add further size to our pack i.e Tasi, Cordner, Conn.
