  • Thoughts on Orford

Never liked him when he was playing for any other team but he has experience in winning and could be a good understudy for Pearce when he gets injured or in rep footy & now that watts ain't playing and Friend is the main hooker. If he came cheap and could provide the experience that Kimmorley gave to the Dogs, why not I say.
    Any thoughts?

The chances of him coming to a club on small wages, to play reserve grade and wait for an injury, when he could easily secure big money and a FG jersey elsewhere (Canberra), are non existent.

Wouldn't be a waste of money but there is no way he would play here for "chicken feed". However, he would be a magnificent back up for Pearce if heaven forbid something did happen to our current number 7.

He chokes in big games IMO , it wouldn't be good experience for Pearce & Carney.

This sort of thing won't happen this year or next, but 2013 onwards, when the NRL hopefully get their $1billion tv rights deal and a significant raise in the salary cap happens then we can see teams finally being able to afford to have quality halfbacks, hookers etc in reserve grade. No longer will players leave the NRL for more money at union, ESL or gAyFL. The NRL will be able to keep all its talent and the standard of rugby league will soar!

                          ROC,
i would be majorly disappointed if our heirachy even considered signing the dwarf. Signing over 31/32 y.o has beens, is going against the grain, especially the way coach Smith thinks.
Orford's return to the NRL will not come cheap. He will want to add to his retirement nest egg/apartments acquired from previous contract negotiations. I can't see him dropping his price.

How many of us laughed at the signing of Kimmorley to the Dogs. I know I rolled on the floor yet he was one of their best for those 2years or so. He destroyed us last season on a Monday game I believe Mind you, most of their team was crap so perhaps he out shone in that team. My point is, and as the papers are saying that he is going for a song, it wouldn't hurt to have him when we don't have Pearce. Of course he may not like that but if he can't get a club, he'll have to settle for something.
Like I said, just a thought and thanks for yours.
