NORTH Queensland have signed Junior Kangaroos skipper Ben Jones from the Roosters on a two-year deal.
Jones, 20, will arrive in Townsville today, and his ability to play centre, five-eighth and hooker will benefit the Cowboys, who will be without Test centre Brent Tate for a large part of the season as he recovers from a third knee reconstruction.
Jones has been a member of the Queensland State of Origin emerging squad and played for the Indigenous All Stars last year under Cowboys coach Neil Henry.
The Roosters wanted to keep Jones, especially since their new signing, former Cowboys hooker Anthony Watts, is likely to miss the season with an ankle injury, but salary cap pressure forced their hand.
Good luck to him, never reached his full potential with us and could be a decent player in the future but not overly worried about his departure.

Reasonably pleased with this. Riddell/Watts (although one injured) are certainly better back up hookers than Kouparitsis/Aubusson. We could be in trouble if Friend or Piggy goes down early though.Originally posted by The Mack View PostSo we have replaced Kouparitsas with Riddell. We have replaced Jones with Watts. James Aubusson is gone too.

it's funny, so much emphasis on having back up hookers and "depth" in so many other positions, but if just one of Pearce or Carney was to be injured for a significant part of the season we'd essentially be finishedOriginally posted by adamkungl View PostReasonably pleased with this. its crazy since the end of last season we have released
Murray,Miller,Jaubs,Jones,Foran
that leaves us with Anasta to cover number 6 if Carney gets injured and
Carney to cover number 7 if Pearce gets injured but nothing after that.
we will be a a rudderless ship at origin time.
they were saying Watts will be lucky to play at all in 2011 on foxsports news today.

The same could be said for all teams. Take out a key player and they're done for the year.Originally posted by Tries Off Kicks View Postit's funny, so much emphasis on having back up hookers and "depth" in so many other positions, but if just one of Pearce or Carney was to be injured for a significant part of the season we'd essentially be finished
Chook.

true, it is the case with most sidesOriginally posted by Chook View PostThe same could be said for all teams. Take out a key player and they're done for the year.
Chook.
still not sure why the most important positions on the field have the least amount of backup though
the playmaker academy idea of Gould's has merit
