The fact that you tried to compare Kouparitsas to Friend just goes to show how much of an idiot you are, and it's a shame that his playing ability doesn't live up to those TWO stats.

Every single one of Kouparitsas's try assists (except for one), linebreak assists, linebreaks and tries came before our significant season-changing Round 14. So it can be said that he was decent when we were playing average, but the moment the team came good, he was rendered as useless.

Stats are useful, but you have to factor in context as well. He wasn't consistently good all year, and his form by the end of the season dropped so sharply that Smith was forced to drop him.

He had a habit for untimely errors, and his tackles/missed tackles ratio was very poor, especially at the back of the season. A few figures:

      11 tackles, 3 missed
      15 tackles, 4 missed
      17 tackles, 3 missed
      17 tackles, 3 missed
      15 tackles, 4 missed
      15 tackles, 5 missed
      20 tackles, 4 missed
      11 tackles, 4 missed
      15 tackles, 4 missed

That is a few of his poorer defensive performances this year. A forward defending in the center of the field shouldn't be missing more than 2 tackles per 20 made - especially if the player has no physical presence (e.g. someone like Morley, Hargreaves would have missed tackles because they are attempting to clobber blokes, Kouparitsas doesn't offer that same hitting ability). Those tackling figures are more akin to that of an outside back.

i think what some people forget is that koops wasnt bought with the intention of being a super star game breaker, nor the best player in the game, nor the best player in the team. he was bought for a little bit of versitility and served that purpose. for that reason he was a reasonable success, he did the job we needed from him. when the time came that we had a bit of depth, had a few more options - jaubs and paea apparently - he was stood down. what more do you want from the bloke?

ok mack you make a decent point, that tackle stat is not acceptable.
im not trying to say koops was the best hooker going around but i am trying to say his criticism on here is way overboard.
the replacement hookers we had were friend and jaubs. jaubs offered nothing in attack, didnt make a linebreak or try assist all year yet he never copped the flack koops did. friend has one of each for the whole season, yet both these players fly under the radar and get much more support. for a playmaking role of hooker this is not acceptable.
remember koops is a second rower.
ive said it before, ive met koops and he told me about the crap he cops on the sideline and team functions from our own supporters. i was emarassed that we could do that to one of our own.

And you reckon he's the first - far from it. He can stand in line after Brett Finch, Skinny Byrne, Chris Walker, Wanker Mason to name just a few.

They all survived the experience and no doubt Koupashitsme will as well.

I hope he is well paid by French rugby and enjoys it. I'm happy for him so long as he is no longer at the Roosters.

An unfortunate panic buy by Fittler that Smithy did the best he could with, under the circumstances.

For me I don't think Koops (nor Byrne for that matter) deserves to be lump in the same group as Finch and Mason.
Koops was not a great player, but was not the disruptive influence the others were.
I wish him all the best and hope he does well

Skinny Byrne was just playing in the wrong era. Under the 2010 "Morris Interpretation", Skinny would have been told to get up and play the ball, we score off the next play and go on to win the 2003 premiership.

Todd Byrne.........simply born out of time!

No they haven't but they will not be at the Roosters in 2011.

Both can't be said to be 'released' as that implies they are under contract, which they in fact are not as at 31 October(?). They will simply not be re-signed to new contracts (hopefully in the case of Koupashitsme anyway).

Best of luck to both of them.

As to whether some players deserve the derision more than others, that's a matter of personal opinion. I had no problems with Byrne and Finch, whilst many others did. I had a huge problem with the Wanka, which others didn't. C Walker I could take or leave.
