  • Tony Archer, Shane Hayne named as referees for NRL grand final

Tony Archer and Shayne Hayne have been appointed to referee Sunday's NRL grand final between St George Illawarra and the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium.

NRL referees' coach Robert Finch on Tuesday announced the appointments, which will also see Gavin Reynolds referee the Toyota Cup grand final.

This will be Archer's fourth consecutive NRL premiership decider and Hayne's second.

"Tony and Shane continue to be the two leading referees in the game and they are the best combination for the biggest match of the year," Finch said.

"They are respected leaders in our team and have earned the right to represent all match officials on the most important of stages."

NRL chief executive David Gallop said: "The closer this competition gets, the more pressure there is on match officials and the fact that Tony and Shayne continue to perform at such a high level is a testament to their professionalism and skill".

"Even critics will tell you it is a job they wouldn't want to do and it says a lot about the strong character of the games match officials that they are so dedicated to their roles."

    God no - we're farked

they are both completely biased against us

did you see that penalty in round 18?

    anyway, it might not matter

Vasco tells me the NRL have already arranged it so that St George win

something to do with the AFL or Folau or something

I hope that neither of them get injured because Ben Cummins is on standby for **** sake, how he is on standby is beyond me, because he is dead set the worst ref in the NRL.

Hayne was the one yelling at the Tigers all night in that first semi, telling them to stop milking it when they were on the ground each time and Archer gave us a fair go against the Tigers. As long as Cummings and Maxwell aren't there I'm happy.

agreed with most comments here except for TOK

they both have their moments, as do all refs, but they're okay really

Could have been a lot worse

Hayne probably gives us a better go than any of the rest of them

Hayne will get the Clive Churchill medal for the most dominant performance on the field

Both good refs.. the only 2 in the NRL that could go by that description but they are fine.

I'd rather have Mogseen Jadwat and Kelvin Jeffes.

According to the Tele, Archer is a good charm for the Dragons. Bring back hollywood Hartley.
