Are you sure the 13 was Grant Hedger? I thought it was Ian McKay.

Something Artie never got much credit for, was just how quick and agile he was for a big guy. He could really get mobile very quickly and caught the defence napping a couple of times.

What about Schubert? He was just about unstoppable that year. And had to love the try against Saints that started in centrefiled and went all the way to the right touchline before an interchange of short passing saw us crash over next to the posts. That would have been the game we beat them 41-7.

As for Jim Porter, he was at Parra in 1975

IT was good to see Artie mobile in that video.
What about the pads on the posts, all they would have done is stopped the paint being chipped when the players hit it.

KB, I remember as a kid playing in footy carnivals at a little town called Bogan Gate about a half hour west of Parkes. The fields were just an old paddock that was mowed and marked for the day and around the posts would be a couple of hession sacks with a bit of wheat in them for padding. Of course by the end of the day, all the wheat had fallen to the bottom of the sacks so if you ran into the posts you were in big trouble. Of course there was no thought of litigation in those days so we just went about the business of playing footy and winning our little pennant!

One interesting thing about that clip is the fact that teams ALWAYS wore the same jersey irrespective of who they were playing. For example, when Easts played Manly, neither side were forced to change to an alternate strip - I like that about those days. I do understand in certain cases the merit for wearing alternate strips when two jerseys are too close in colour to eachother in an overall sense (jersey, shorts and socks) but when there is NO clash at all I don't see why these days the away teams (except for the pennies for some unknown reason) are forced into wearing a predominantly white bastardised version of their home jersey.

Lastly, how much better are the grounds these days both in terms of the playing surface and goal post protection.

You can actually see Porter in the footage playing for Parra in No.2 trying to stop Schubert from scoring at about 7:20

Who were our local juniors in this side?

                      6. Peard - Bondi United
                      7. Monkey Mayes - Bondi United
                      9. Bunny Reilly - Paddo Colts
                      13. Ian McKay - Clovelly

Could probably claim Fairy because he was from Randwick yawnion and Easts were his first league team.

Coote was from Kensington, but I guess that's strictly Souffs after they pillaged our boundaries.

                      Any others??

Bomber Peard wrote in his book how he and Mayes hated playing Paddo because Bunny was there. He was so glad when they could finally play together.

amazing footage, thanks for posting that Samwise. One think that is so noticeable is how the physiques back then were so much different!

i think the DVD from where the footage is taken (http://www.oo.com.au/1975_Roosters_N...38615C1794.cfm), has highlights from one game where Wests wore a white jersey. Not 100% sure though.
