geez will struggle to field a team next week

    Injury update
    9/08/2010 11:00:00 AM
The Sydney Roosters have received some mixed injury news after the narrow loss to the competition leaders on Sunday.

Jason Ryles (ribs), Mose Masoe (mild concussion) and Todd Carney (mild concussion) will be available for selection for this Friday night’s game away to the Cronulla Sharks.

However, Kane Linnett (knee), Joseph Leilua (thigh) and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (calf) will all spend some time on the sideline.

Linnett suffered a medial ligament injury to his right knee, which is likely to end his season with the expected recovery between four and six weeks.

Leilua’s corked thigh and Waerea-Hargreaves’ strained calf are likely to keep them out for one to two weeks, and with the short turnaround this week has the medical staff convinced they won’t be fit for selection.

Mitchell Aubusson will be continually monitored during the week as he recovers from a left shoulder injury endured in the win over Parramatta Eels a little over a week ago.

Toyota Cup players Ben Jones (calf) and Sam Brunton (shoulder) are likely to miss next week’s match in the Shire.

Jones has not played since the win over the Eels due to a calf strain and Brunton will have scans later today on his left shoulder after he came from the field during the second half against the St George Illawarra Dragons.

In further injury news, three players from the NRL full time squad played a part in Newtown’s surge to the top of the New South Wales Cup with their win on Saturday as they make the journey back from injury.

Hooker James Aubusson slotted in at halfback and played 65 minutes after he had surgery on a troublesome ankle.

Prop Lopini Paea got through an hour as his comeback from a shoulder injury looks promising as the NRL forward pack suffered more casualties.

Winger Sonny Tuigamala, who has not seen first grade this season, got through the entire match with no complainants after recovering from an ankle injury.

Tom Symonds was also supposed to be part of the side that beat the Western Suburbs Magpies but an ankle injury at training on Thursday night has him likely to be out for a month.

Other full time squad members Anthony Cherrington and Boyd Cordner who both had knee surgery before the season begun on ruptured anterior cruciate ligaments are well down the roads to recovery but will not be used this season.

We are struggling a bit with injury, but i think we have enough depth.

Conn, Gurerra, Paea, Kennedy would be the first 4 backups for the forwards

The backs may be a problem, with both linnett and BJ out, maybe Graham to the centres and Towers to the wing?????

Thankfully its against the sharks though we lost the 1st round, that was just a hiccup. Any serious team should be the Sharks regardless of the team they put in.

just reading that article you would think Tuigamala is going to replace Linnett/Leilua, just goes to show the lack of depth we have out wide.

It's not as bad as it looks. Other than Linnett they aren't really serious injuries 1-2 weeks and they will be ok.

What it does show is our lack of depth in the backs. That is why we signed J. Carney and are after Ferguson.

what other options are there aside from towers for linnetts spot? would naughton or blair have any serious chance?

Blair isn't good enough, Naughton has barely played this year and Towers is a fullback.

If we need back I would just move Graham into the centres where he has played this season and bring in a winger.

There are no easy games but we should have enough to beat Cronulla.

Tu'u Maori - Is he a chance for the centres..???

An old bloke who knows plenty about footy says he is..

I would not know him if I tripped over him in the street, nevermind how he goes at footy..

                Anyone..???

I thought the Roosters may be hopeful that 4-6 weeks does not mean 'season ending'. 4 weeks would be back for week 1 of the semis - 6 weeks is the weeks before the GF. Given our lack of depth out wide, Linnet still may be required if we make it this far!

This far into the season, there may also be salary cap issues.

If we blood someone that hasn't played first grade this year, don't they get added to the cap? Most teams have hit their cap by now. Hope we haven't or we may have Jaubs or Paea slotting in on the wing!

We will struggle for the next few weeks you'd think until we get everybody on board again. With the amount of players unavailable, I'd like to see Smith field this side:

                      1. Anthony Minichiello
                      2. Phil Graham
                      3. Tu'u Maori
                      4. Shaun Kenny-Dowall
                      5. Sam Perrett
                      6. Todd Carney
                      7. Mitchell Pearce
                      8. Jason Ryles
                      9. Jake Friend
                      10. Nate Myles
                      11. Frank-Paul Nuuausala
                      12. Mitch Aubusson
                      13. Braith Anasta (c)

                      14. Mose Masoe
                      15. Lopini Paea
                      16. Daniel Conn
                      17. Nick Kouparitsis

Still not a bad side to field given our injury woes and we'll definitely give the Sharks a run for their money on Friday. We need to give Tu'u Maori a run in first grade while he is in hot form. Linnett and Leilua were given chances and they were very good in first grade. I have no doubt Tu'u Maori will handle the step-up. He is a star of the future IMO.

There was a story about him in one of the papers last week. The Jets coach said that if Linnett was good enough for NRL than he had no doubts that Maori would be too. He reckons he's been killing it for the Jets.

According to Rothfield, who has spoken to Dr Orchad, Kane is looking at getting back on field for the Cowboys game or first week of the finals

Best news I've heard all day! Hope Rothfield is accurate on this one for once.

                              http://www.nrl.com/news/news/newsart...s/default.aspx

The Roosters' other injury fears have eased with prop Jason Ryles (ribs) and back Joseph Leilua (corked quad) both possible starters against Cronulla at Toyota Stadium on Friday night.

Second-rower Mitch Aubusson (shoulder) is likely to return a week later for the round 24 clash with Gold Coast.
Hmmmmm, article from nrl.com at 3pm.
