  • Balance

Having watched todays game our pack lacks a bit of balance in terms of who starts and who comes off the bench. In the opening exchanges, the dragons really got on top in the forwards in the wrestle which allowed them to set to tone and put the pressure right on. I think this comes down to who starts and comes off the bench. Imo, Out of Ryles, FPN and Myles, one of them needs to go to the bench to accommodate either masoe or jwh to start. what this will do is not only spread some experience onto the bench but also ensure that one of JWH or masoe (our 2 enforcers) is on the park at anytime throughout the game. I would ideally like to see a pack that looks like this:
    8. Myles
    9. Friend
    10. Masoe
    11. FPN
    12. Maubs
    13. Anasta

    14. Ryles
    15. JWH
    16. Leilua
    17. Jaubs

This way you have ryles off the bench for stability and experience and his workrate to ensure the youngsters dont lose their way when the likes of FPN and Myles leave the field for a rest and it also ensures that one of our 2 powerhouse forwards is on the field at any one time during the game. this gives our pack a much better balance and go forward imo

      disagree.

Mose needs to come off the bench. He is a gun. Put him on after 15 mins to replace any of our starting pack and he wil reak havoc.

I liked Daniel Conn in the starting line-up.

well then maybe start JWH. I just feel as if one of our real aggressors (JWH or Masoe) needs to start to really make a statement from the opening exhanges with the other to come off the bench and make a further impact go on with it. Conn is pretty impressive. Maybe once we get back to fullstrength he is deserving of a spot on the bench instead of leilua - a bit more experience and grit

Conn was great today. Even when getting outmuscled, he finds a way to make an extra couple of metres.

          Unlucky not to score today.

of course dick head. We only talk crap....
            You'll fit in well.

That's why none of us have anything to do with the team or selections.

I get the feeling Hargreaves is playing injured. I think he is a 20-30 min player at the moment.

Masoe was in the starting lineup a few weeks ago but since injuring his calf has been on the bench. The trainer was massaging his calf today so Masoe is probably still not 100%.

                  But **** dice....how tough was he !!!

We need him every game from here on in. Other teams will be watching where he is on the field.

Put in to perspective...Pearce and Carney didn't have a great game today, but when Mose was on the field, we all knew he was there.

Masoe is awesome and we need him for the finals but I wouldn't be putting too much emphasis on the remaining rounds. Smithy knows what he is doing.

Considering the lack of possession and little room to move I thought Carney played quite well. Pearce could have done better.

St george Illawarra owned Pearce. They had him covered.

Roz, you are spot on about the balance.

I noticed a few weeks ago, when ryles, Mose, FPN and myles started, we would go gang busters, but when 2 or more of those players were subbed off, the intensity and domination dropped.

Really, at full strength at the moment, disregarding the numbers on their backs, the team on the field is:

                          Ryles
                          Friend
                          Myles
                          Anasta
                          Aubusson
                          Nuuausala

Anasta is working the left edge, Aubusson is working the right edge, both are providing seriously outstanding links between the halves and the outside backs. Nuuausala is operating up the middle of the field, hitting gaps hard and looking for the offload. The big issue with this, however, is that as Roz said, we have two grafting props starting, and two impact props on the bench.

Maybe starting one (most likely Mose on form) and benching either Ryles or Myles would be the better option. That way there aren't periods when we are struggling for go-forward. Hargreaves might be playing injured but his runs have plenty of oomph, as do Mose's hitups. Ryles tends to have good leg drive but not tremendous impact, and same with Myles.

The key is Maubs. We lacked that wide running forward spark that he brings. They had Creagh who had a good game. With Linnett out early, it also stuffed up our rotation and meant Koups had to play more minutes. We played our worst game in a couple of months and they played their best in a month yet we were one pass off winning a game we were never in.

precisely my point. JWH and Masoe have very similar games as do myles and ryles so by starting one of each type of player and bringing the other 2 off the bench there is a better balance about our pack and go forward
