  • Don't forget Mitchell

Giving everyone a rap, I thought he was very good tonight.

Kicked long and early, finding loads of space. Organised the team fantastically. Showed good strength and a handy step to gift Minichiello that try.

A lot of the space Carney and co. enjoy is created by Pearce. That 25m pass to Perrett was impeccable.

He will go on to do great things.

Yeah gosh.. it's become SO hard to pick a standout player lately. Carney is doing magic, but Pearce is doing great things.. FPN, Masoe, Ryles & Myles are outstanding.. Friend has been a sensation.. Braith to Lock has also been solid.. Minichiello back to fullback.. Yeah.. see what I mean?

      Lots of smiling here!

it all goes to show we have a real star team , not a team of prima donna stars like melbourne?

Let's not forget the other Mitchell as well. Ran some brilliant lines in attack, and made some remarkeable defensive efforts when we looked certain to concede points.

There is not a player in the comp id swap him for!

Pearce is going a lot better now that the playmakers around him are in their proper positions - Anasta at lock, Carney at five eighth, and both of them on fire.

It is a good balance between the organisation of Pearce and the creativity of Carney. Pearce looks confident to run at the line, and is kicking really well.

His defence is also very good for a halfback - he made some good one-on-one tackles tonight, and does that often. Chases well off his own kicks, too.

He looks to have struck a really good, balanced partnership with Carney.

agreed. Everyone is playing their part well.

Melbourne, pre-crisis, had an awesome team though.. Saints are the epitome of a 'team'-team... team

but i goddam hope they choke

we have a couple of things to sort out which imo go hand in hand with experience and maturity which is unfortunately our Achilles heal like it or not. that is our defence and composure - the way we threw and spread the ball around in the middle periods of the first and second half by which time we had healthy leads at both periods of the game was silly. once you get ahead then the percentage plays need to take effect - no errors, complete the sets, kick long and chase and minimise the penalties. this is giving other sides unnecessary snifs at our line along with the ridiculous penalty counts against us.

The second thing is defence - we did pretty well tonight but still looked a bit shaky at times. Get this right and i will agree that we are a real chance but atm i see us reaching the semis knocking out a couple of big teams on the way and then stumbling at the final hurdle pretty much due to these sorts of things which ultimately come down to experience

I had a woody after our loss to the Warriors because I could see Carney has been the missing link to break the oppositions predictable compressed defense which has worked so well against us for the last few years. He can get the ball out wide much quicker than Anasta ever could which has opened up a world of possibilities all over the park. Compressed defense we run around them, spread defense we carve them up the middle, rushing defense Carney chips in behind them.

The real test comes next week against the best defensive team in the comp. If we can nullify Saints defense our boys will be confident of outscoring any team in the comp.

                    Good days ahead.

Brian Smith picked this off about parra early, they were trying to cover the whole field, he wanted the forwards to carve up the middle.

Thats the beauty of our team with carney and pearce as the halves, we have opportunities all over the park regardless of the style of defence we are up against, especially with damaging forwards like FPN and Mose, Ryles, Conn, kennedy, Maubs, Myles and Anasta laying a brilliant platform !

Mitch being so good at running the whole team allows Carney to do what he's doing..
