about moving Carney to 6 where he belongs. Fark me it only took Brian 16 or so rounds to work it out. A real 5/8th!

By the way I thought Braith was good at lock. Certainly didnt shirk the workload

On each of your three comments I wholeheartedly agree with you Dolphin.
Braith was great at 13, Mini had his best game at 1 and Todd was where he belongs.
How happy did the boys look at the end of the game?

Did you ever consider this was his plan all along, starting him at fullback untill he was up to speed with NRL after a year in pub footy. If Carney was palying
5/8 at the start of the year, every forward in the NRL would have been wanting to trample over him.

You may well be right. As he actually played a floating 5/8th role there anyway.

OK, I'll pay that. But what the fark is the plan with Kouparitsas?
The obsession with Kouparitsas belies the smarts you imply.

"Obviously at fullback, there's a lot riding on the way you play, the start of the team's set (of six).

"I thought earlier I handled it but as it went on, a few injuries and (lack of) confidence, it just wasn't me and Smithy realised that.

"He just came to me and said after the (round 14) Melbourne game (a 38-6 victory) when Pearcey (halfback Mitchell Pearce) was away, he said he's going to put me back there and he said I might have to get put back to fullback at times through the year depending on injury." Plan A, though, is to wear the No.6 jersey and Carney said the combinations with Pearce, hooker Jake Friend, lock Braith Anasta and fullback Anthony Minichiello were coming together.

Maybe the timing is a ploy and a masterstroke.

I do believe it was Round 16 in 2002 when Ricky unleashed our new defence tactics that changed the game.

Totally agree. Not just the fitness factor, but everyone thought Brian would cut all the dead wood straight away. He is a master coach, and did the right thing not moving Braith straight away. Braith would have had a sook straight away, but by doing it now he accepts it is for the team, and Brian and his relationship stays strong.

You cannot come to a club, and cut players, and change all the positions in you first week.

I know Easts supporters love results straight away, but did it ever hurt to build for a premiership?

Not to mention the ploy also allowed Minichiello to ease his way back to full fitness on the wing instead of in the more exacting postion of fullback.

Also, I think that Carney playing half a season at fullback improves and widens his skills at a footballer. And gives us some more depth options going into the finals. In the worst case scenario where Mini and Perrett somehow went down with injury, we could do worse than putting Carney back to fullback.

Things are starting to come together nicely....we need to belt the dogs next week. 3 on the trot would put us in an EXCELLENT position heading towards the finals
