This is based completely on what I have seen from them so far in their careers with us:

Players we should keep long term as our team core:

Carney, Pearce, Waerea-Hargreaves, Myles, Nuuausala, M Aubusson, Symonds, Perrett

Players who should be kept till the end of their current contracts due to their experience (but possibly released after):

    Anasta, Ryles, Graham, Minichiello

Players who I am undecided on as long-term prospects:

Conn, Guerra, Kenny-Dowall, Jones, Cherrington, Friend, Tuigamala, Linnett, Towers, Naughton, Foran, Masoe, Kennedy, Baitieri, J Aubusson

    Players who are dead weight:

    Paea, Kouparitsas, Takairangi

    ...

There are only 8 players in our current team who I would expect to see in our team in, say, 3-4 years, who will still be automatic picks. The rest are either automatic picks until they retire/leave, players with questionable credentials still, or simply rubbish players.

I can't comment on the U20s/SG Ball talent as we haven't really seen them in the big time, but regardless.

i think friend definitely needs to be wrapped up long term, great prospect, even the great wayne bennet thinks so.

possibly kennedy could be persevered with also.

Of that undecided group, the ones who are the closest to being persisted with are Jones, Cherrington and Friend.

Masoe, Naughton, Linnett, Foran, Towers are pretty much unknown - we have no idea how they will go in first grade.

Kennedy, Tuigamala, Conn, Guerra, Baitieri have had short stints of first grade, with hints of talent but inconsistency.

SKD and Aubusson, on the other hand, are on the border between getting rid of them, and undecided. SKD is in his 4th full season with us, Jorbs is in his 3rd full season with us and 4th full season of first grade, both are still playing dumb too often.

Yet Sam Perrett who has played over 100 first grade games and makes dumb errors week in week out, you think we should keep. Perrett is worse than SKD as he offers nothing in attack or defence. He is slow, can't defend to save his life, has bad hands and is terrible under the high ball, and did I mention he is really slow. he should be one of the first to be punted, offers nothing.

Perret has been quite ordinary lately. Still, at least his errors are a result of trying hard, not being goofy.

Imo, friend is definitely long term and kennedy isnt far behind. I would also be keen on bringing tamou back for depth - awesome player and a junior of ours. I would also like to see towers get a go at the back before we finalise anything with dugan - imo he could be anything - bounces out of tackles ala mini and has the speed and support play of a slater with the ball playing abilities of a half having played plenty of footy there as well coming through the grades. He has the makings, has been in form and most importantly is a local junior. The rest im pretty indifferent about but i agree on your must gos and keepers lists. Id throw cordner and leilua straight onto your keepers list even though they havent played firsts yet - they are amazing as i know you agree

Yet he is playing for Newtown.. Somehow I don't quite think he is all you are making him out to be... somehow.. Tamou would be our best front rower in a couple years.. maybe aside from JWH admittedly.. but be careful as rooster6 will try to convince you he left the Roosters to go home to NQ lol...

I can't be too sure of players until I have seen them at first grade.

                    For example:

                    - I did not rate Tom Symonds that highly, until he hit the first grade team, and showed to everyone his tremendous potential as a linebreaker, hence, he is a definite keeper

                    - Jones, Kennedy and Cherrington are players who had done well in our lower grades, but are yet to show any semblance of consistent FG form, hence, they are not definites

Until the more talented of our youngsters (backrowers Leilua, Cordner, and Lowe, and backs Blair, Moeakiola and Towers) hit first grade and show their potential at that level, it is hard to make judgement on their long term credentials.

Basically, if I were told "name the players you would give long-term contracts to at the Roosters beyond 2013", I would only pick:

                    - Sam Perrett (long-serving clubman, always puts 100% effort, makes some errors but is a player most teams would love)
                    - Todd Carney (most spark in a fullback/half that we have seen in a long time, unpredictable talent that must stay)
                    - Mitchell Pearce (our most consistent half, knows how to control matches at a young age, always tough as nails too)
                    - Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (will be the new Morley, hits hard, gets angry, plenty of size, aggression, and rep player)
                    - Nate Myles (the long-term leader of our pack, will carry the team on his back through the hardest times, huge heart)
                    - Mitchell Aubusson (great workrate in defense, outstanding tackling technique, strong tackle busting runs too)
                    - Tom Symonds (highly skilled wide-running backrower who can hit holes around the ruck and break the line at will)
                    - Frank-Paul Nuuausala (still raw, but has size, a rapidly improving workrate, can promote second-phase play, at is a prospect)

cherro is very highly regarded. its a shame he got injured early this year as he was in for a big year. he will be back.

Agree 100% on these 'long termers'. The good thing with this group of payers is that only a couple of years separates them in age so they can form the core of the playing squad in years to come.

                          Correct:

                          JWH - 21
                          Symonds - 21
                          Pearce - 21
                          Perrett - 25
                          Nuuausala - 23
                          Myles - 25
                          Carney - 24
                          Aubusson - 23

That is the right age bracket for progress, IMO. The future is in their hands.

Shillo was an absolute cushion when he started for us too.

Nuuausala to me, as I have said many times before, looks a LOT like Paul Rauhihi. His playing style at the moment, he seems confused between whether he is to really wind up and smash into the line, or prop up at the line and look for the offload. Just because he is big, it doesn't mean he has to play in the same bash and barge style as other props.

Nuuausala's best asset is his ability to draw defenders (whether you see him as soft or not, he invariably seems to always draw in at least 2-3 defenders) and promoting second phase play. People were often critical of big RaRa for the Cowboys for the lack of sting in his hitups for someone of his size, but his offloading and high workrate made him a very valuable player.

All FPN needs to fix, is his fitness. Sometimes when he gets tired he makes sloppy errors or gives away silly penalties. But really, once he is able to consistently play around 55-65 minutes, we will see plenty of hitups, offloads and tackles from the big bloke.

It is frustrating as a Roosters fan seeing his inconsistency not just week by week, but within the same game too. But I have seen enough from him to know that he can really do well for our team if given the chance.

SKD on the other hand...the guy is a walking brain explosion sometimes. Don't know how much more we can deal with it.
