It was a simple dropped ball. The run was good, the pass was good. And if Pearce had caught it, the result would have been good as well. Don't blame SKD for passing it on the second or for not building pressure. If Pearce takes it (which he should have), he would have gone very close to scoring

How many Finch passes hit chests..........of fans sitting in row w of the grand stands ????Originally posted by Kramer86 View PostSo every ball has to hit a player on the chest, to be deemed a fantastic ball?

There was need for it, that's the point.Originally posted by Kramer86 View PostIt was a simple dropped ball. The run was good, the pass was good. It wasn't a high percentage play, and was not needed in the situation. We needed to cart the ball up with simple hit-ups and make Riff defend more.
I'll watch the replay again at 4.30 if i get the chance but i remember making a note of it during the game. Ridiculous.

There was a need for it, to score a try. I was at the game, right in line with it. Pearce just dropped it. Simple as that. I'll try and catch the replay this afternoon as well, just to make sure I remember correctlyOriginally posted by BigMike View PostThere was need for it, that's the point.

It is much broader than that. We needed to score a try, however we needed to complete our sets first and foremost.
No matter how good the pass was ( i'm certain it was far from quality ) an around the corner pass is not high percentage. Applied pressure not only brings you a try but sets you up for the try after that. We need to wear down the opposition players, especially on a hot day like yesterday. Trying to score on every other play will just result in dropped ball and mistakes. It's that kind of mentality that will separate us from quality teams.
Todays game is centered much more on momentum than individual brilliance.

You have to take your chances as well. You can't just tuck the ball under your arm for 4 tackles every set. If you see an opportunity to score points or create, then you should take it. There was certainly an opportunity on that play. Pearce saw it, otherwise he wouldn't have pushed up in support. How often does a halfback run off a centre? Rarely. The opportunity was there, but we missed out because Canola decided to give out free samples in the dressing sheds before the game. I feel as though this is a little bit of SKD bashing, rather than genuine analysis of the play...

Todays game is a funny old thing. Who knows? Pearce holds his line, Carney's ball goes backwards, and we're in under the sticks, maybe we win? If Pearce picks up SKD's ball, we go in, maybe that turns the momentum and we lift?Originally posted by BigMike View PostIt is much broader than that. Individual brilliance can change the game completely. It is never needed. But it's bloody welcome when it comes.
That's the kind of stuff that a bit later in the season, we'll see coming off, and we'll all, in our bipolarity, hail SKD as the next big thing.
If that had come off and we'd won the game, we'd all be talking about how fantastic it was and why it was a game breaking play.
That was not the thing that lost us the game. It wasn't even a mistake really. Pearce should have caught it. Regardless, it's good to see blokes having a crack, because that stuff will win us games soon.

I've just seen a replay on Foxtel IQ,
it happened in the 19th minute, Panthers 10 Roosters 0, fourth tackle of the set. Roosters had a ruck on the 40m line, SKD runs it out of dummy half.
SKD made it to about 27m out from the Panthers' line when he threw the offload, the pass was to Pearce's knees.
And even if Pearce had caught it, he had two defenders within 5 metres of him and the fullback to beat. There was no support and in all likelihood Pearce would have been wrapped up quite easily.
Ray Warren: "he got the pass away and Mitchell Pearce almost turned it into a magnificent piece of football."FONK

We were barely in the game at that stage. I think tucking the ball under hand for a set of six was the ONLY option we had. Or at least make it down their goal-line, then throw miracle balls.Originally posted by Kramer86 View PostYou have to take your chances as well. We needed possession and we proved that we don't value the pill by even CONSIDERING that as a play.
SKD bashing has nothing to do with it. I praise the bloke when he has a good game. Silly decisions and errors is what lets his game down and erases any good work he does.

Thats pretty much how I remembered it knee height should have been taken. If I remember correctly it was out in front of Pearce and was actually higher than the knees but the time Pearce got his hands to it, it was knee height.Originally posted by redwhiteandbluester View PostI've just seen a replay on Foxtel IQ,

The Roosters were on the attack at that stage, 25m out from the Penrith line, and if SKD took the tackle it was the second to last tackle of the set.Originally posted by BigMike View PostWe were barely in the game at that stage. Mate i'm not discouraging those kinds of passes, or individual brilliance but the players need to know when to display it and when to knuckle down and work our way into the game the tough way.Originally posted by BlindFreddy View PostTodays game is a funny old thing. It wasn't what cost us the game, there were some moments which made me cringe worse ie Perret's dropped balls, Carnage's failure to diffuse the bomb. However, i only single SKD out is because he does it more than any other player in the team and i remember making a note of it during the game, saying to myself that it was a big mistake in the context of the game.

Ahh, cheers mate, i was certain that the pass was iffy, although i thought it was earlier in the set.Originally posted by redwhiteandbluester View PostI've just seen a replay on Foxtel IQ,

Still maintain that it shouldn't of been thrown.
