  • Play what's in front of you

Apparently this is Smith's mantra to the team.

Great when things are going well for us or if we're in the oppositions half but NOT WHEN YOUR ON YOUR OWN LINE FELLAS!!

It seems that time and time again we're trying that miracle play in our own half - trying to play what's in front of us.

The guys need to learn to be more patient and get out of our own half when the pressure is on by grinding forward - not trying to run around wingers and get pushed into touch for example.

I think the problem that we saw last night was too much dummy half running from backs and not enough damaging runs from props coming out of our own half. The broncos were consistently making 50+ metres per set while we were make 25-30. Most of the game looked like bloody forcemansback. Lucky their attack in our quarter was crap.

Any team scouting the roosters now would have two markers going left and right because three out of four hitups are coming out of dummy half. We need to be able to mix this up better with props running one or two off the ruck.

I think that is the tactic Smith uses to avoid the big props getting tired.
. Our props aren't fit enough to make those damaging runs, then back that up with solid defence
It's worked pretty well so far

yer we'll prob see less dummy-half runs as the season trickles by.. and the forwards amp up their fitness

Minichiello, Perret and Kenny Dowall nearly gave me a heart attack every time they touched the ball. There was some excellent runs from all 3, especially Kenny Dowall and Perret, but have you seen a back line flirt with the sideline any more than ours??

Nothing wrong with dummy-half runs. It's putting on stupid plays or pushing the pass that's not needed in our own twenty.

I definately think its a tactic that Smith is using and its pretty effective so far.

Our backs have been helping out the forwards by coming into dummy half and scooting out and it has been quite effective. Smith encourages the players to spread the ball around and play an expansive game which is a bonus because we have some great attacking players in the team in Mitchell Pearce, Todd Carney. Anthony Minichiello and Phil Graham. The forwards just roll on up the middle and are doing their jobs IMO.

SKD has developed a habit of running across field from dummy half and throwing a cut out if he sees numbers. It creates space, but is risky, especially when the man he's throwing it to has no depth and is danger of gelting belted and losing the ball.

The flirting with the sideline doesn't work, none of them are quick enough.

Add that to their slippery hands and I'm on the verge of a heart attack AND stroke whenever they acrry the ball

Does anyone see a lot of Matt King in the way SKD plays at centre?

IMO, he plays the exact way Soliola was SUPPOSED to play. Uses his size, speed and agility, can break tackles at will, has surprising speed and acceleration for someone of his physique, and can sniff out a try.

Perrett and Mini are also regularly getting through 10-15 hitups a game too, leaving Carney to inject himself when necessary without having to get his hands too dirty.

I am not so sure about this one - SKD is training in the centres???

I think Graham will be a winger..

SKD back to the position he played in under 20's and juniors I'm happy about that. A Matt King clone methinks

                          This week he's Matt King.
Last week he was a reserve grader. I see that lot has gone nice and quiet this week. No offence to you Mack, you aren't one of the wrist slitters.
