Club Captain
Bit strange when a club captain is under scrutiny, as to his very position in the side? Isn't it?
Two things that are quite rightly not being questioned are his comittment to the cause or his leadership ability.
Without being the be all and end all, it's worth considering that, even though we don't know what they all get, Braith is likely to be very near the top of the wages list, if not at the peak.
My own view is this;
Braith has been the 5/8 for some time.
Carney, when taking a 5/8 play, has looked more dangerous in 2 weeks than Braith ever has. Braith is slow, has very little footwork, and looks only for his telegraphed shortside rush play with numbers. Worked a couple of times last year.
Playing for Melbourne, I think Braith would do great. Better than Finch, who's doing real well
But we are not Melbourne. We lack flair, and we now have a 5/8 who legitimately creates, yet we persist with the option that has not worked.
I assure you, with Braith at 5/8, we have very close to nothing in attack
And if Braith plays 5/8 all year, mark my words, we won't make the 8

What's wrong with a systematic 5/8th who is physical, can hit a hole, and a great exponent of the short ball ?
I think Carney gelled very well with him in attack, especially considering they only played 2 games together.
If you want flair, why can't it come from the centres and the fullback ? While the halves concentrate on delivering good ball to them ?
He's probably on big money - yes, is he worth it? In the grand scheme of things, probably not. However, come resigning time, provided he accepts a lower contract ( i don't think the club will give him as big of a contract this time around), i'd want him at our club for years to come.
Oh and by the way, when you keep mentioning his speed, who exactly are you comparing him to ? Most of the modern day 5/8th aren't exactly speed merchants. Don't bring Soward and Benji up, because they are exceptions.
Campese is slow as shit, yet people consider him one of the top 5/8ths in the game.
I think you need to let this vendetta go, because it seems to me, that unless the bloke does backflips while setting up tries, you will always put him down.Last edited by BigMike; 03-30-2010, 11:27 PM.

Please, he has no problem getting the ball out there. Problem is we had nothing but 2nd rowers playing in the centres. Anasta is dangerous close to the line because he has a big frame and quite often uses it. That's what makes his short ball so dangerous.
Please, watch him closely next couple of games without bias and you may be surprised.
... and FFS can we forget about the intercept ? The pass was no telegraphed to Turner, he did brilliantly to scoop it up in one hand. IT was a time in the game when desperation was needed and with some pressure Braith threw a questionable pass. Talk about the ball Pearce telegraphed into Kennedy's head as that was far more entertaining and laughable.
Also, in regards to catching that bomb for his try, did anyone missed how high Braith leaped ? Considering the off-season surgery on his ankle and the fact that he is a heavy build, i thought it was brilliant.
