  • 2015 Rule Changes - Back to Super League?

There is an article in today's Murdoch paper about coaches being up in arms about rule changes announced just before Christmas. It essence, referees will blow their whistles if all defending players fail to release the man with the ball simultaneously. Currently, defenders are allowed to "peel" off the attacking player one after the other.

These unnamed coaches say they haven't been given enough warning to adjust to this radical new interpretation. They say it will bring back a Super League style of play with lots of dummy half runs and fewer offloads. There is also an implication that the Roosters and the Broncos have had longer to prepare for the rule changes because Robinson and Bennett are on the rules committee.

Every year they introduce a rule change that changes the game in a significant way. I think this is part of the NRL's strategy to shuffle the deck every year to ensure that different teams succeed. I suspect the NRL would dearly love to see a Queensland team win in 2015 - the Broncos or the Cowboys - and that this latest rule may benefit them in some way.

But how will the Roosters go playing Super League in 2015? We have attacking firepower all over the park, so maybe it will be good for us. (Then again, it will depend on whether the referees will apply the new rule to our opponents or just to us...)

such a dumb move by the NRL, will lead to more blow out scores as once momentum goes against a side they won't be able to stop the run of points.

also can you imagine how many ruck penalties we will give away this year with the new interpretation of the rule.

have to hope Robbo has adjusted our game plan accordingly.

I've said this before and strongly believe it to be so.
It is one of the main reasons I am becoming very tired of the NRL. If not for my love of the Roosters, I could walk away from watching the game. It is pathetic. The rule changes may benefit us in attack but you can be sure we will remain, to quote the senile old you know who 'the most penalised team in the comp' by a very long way. These changes will clearly benefit the fairytale Bennett return to the friday night ponies. it will also continue to help Souffs as dummy half runs and one out runs from their big forrwards is their game plan.

I honestly think this rule benefits souths more then anyone, im not sure any other team in the comp relies so heavily on powerful runs and fast play the balls... thats how they score most of there points.

It will suit our backs in yardage, having Fergo, Jenko, Skids, Toups and RTS off kick returns will certainly draw penalties and put us straight back in the opposition half. It will benefit Packs in possession like the Dogs during the opening exchanges but once possessions even up those big forwards will be run off their feet, JWH's shape change will be of benefit.

I tell you, if Michael Clarke does the decent thing and retires then I'll give up on league and just watch the cricket almost the whole year round.

I find it hard to believe the article has much basis in fact.
I do not think Robinson would support those changes, although it may not matter as anything is possible with the complete circus of idiots that are running the game at the moment.

As I understand it the focus was alot more on getting 1 referee making more decisions (apparently looking to get consistency) and possible reductions in the interchanges to bring more fatigue and get more "real" footballers playing and making decisions.

the rule will add more pressure for the refs to stuff it up more often

the rule will benefit those who adapt the best

Stop farking with the game! the refs cant even get the current rules right so why do the NRL feel they need to change rules every season.... no wonder the refs are confused out there. i do not think there is a sport on the planet that changes so often and drastically then the NRL.... just watch a game from 7 years ago and its like a different sport..stop farking it up nrl!

                          Some whingers on here.
Any rule changes affect all teams so therefore fair.

Not totally true as every team is coached differently... all teams have different strengths and weaknesses....some teams will benefit more then others... but that isnt really my issue, my issue is every year they feel the need to make a change ust for the sake of changing something.

All rule changes appear to be aimed at speeding up the game and taking away from the collision. Yes I believe the end product is diminished but the clubs are left in the lurch about which way the game is headed.
