  • Mitch Wiliams the Wyong Roos hooker could be the years biggest surprise. He's training with top squad at the moment, he may do enough to impress the coach with his attitude to training and good trial form to emerge as a bolter for the early rounds

He wasn't awful at all. It's not his natural position. As a fill in he did extremely well.

Id give him first dibs for sure...NSW cup player of the year etc.

If for some unlikely reason he wasn't the answer the stop gap Maubs or Horrie options exist...both not ideal.

If Robbo was going after Srama , I don't think he rates Mitch Williams as a full time NRL footballer. Maubs can defend there for long minutes and if we are looking for speed/spark for 20-30 minutes per game we can throw in SOH for 10 minutes either side of halftime, like we used to do with morts.
          Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

          • Pearce to hooker every know and then would have beneficial to his Aussie rep. selection ala Ben Hunt. Why we don't use him there sometimes is beyond me. He would have made the Australian squad this year if he had any hooker experience.

I don't think the coach makes selections based on what would help a particular player to make a rep side.
At the business end of the season, Pearce was the best half-back in the game. His highlights reel would out do Thurston's for this period. Now why in the hell would anyone suggest he plays another position. Even if it was just for a short time during a game, you just wouldn't do it.

                    Hi Thirteen,

I believe that you are very much correct in this instance and I would like to point out that I find it was of no coincidence that Mitchell "Jnr Jnr" Pearce played such wonderful football in the absence of representative football for New South Wales.

I also do not understand why moving Mitchell Pearce to the hooker position is seen as a popular opinion.

                    • One person's belief that Pearce should play some time at hooker doesn't qualify as "popular opinion" :P

Craig Wing often felt the same.

                        • I was a supporter of the "Switch Mitch to 9" campaign during a part of last year where Jake was unavailable.

However Mitch himself finished the season with such brilliant form....best of the 7s IMHO...that I would have to say leave him there for now.

                          • Andrew Johns played a lot of hooker. Cam Smith switches to the halves for his team when needed. As I said it would be beneficial for Pearce's rep career if he could play another position if needed. I am not saying he should move there permanently. Some people cannot read or work for the Telegraph and make things up.

I think Robbo is more concerned about what's best for the team, rather than Pearce's rep career. There could be nothing worse than changing your halves combination around during a match. Pearce is needed at halfback and that is why it would be a stupid decision to move him.
