Saw the big unit down at Coogee oval training with a trainer. I think that's an indication as to what's going to happen next season. if he was any chance of playing he'd surely be training with the boys.

He has been training with several private trainers all off season.
The saga is just draggin on and on.
I suppose we will know in "2 weeks"!...

I can see Willies story becoming one like Kurt Reynoldson, he clearly is not wanted by Brian Smith

Willie has no future under Smith, both parties should sit down come to a comprimise and move on

If Willie is not going to play this year he should be shuffled off ,the sort of character he is I can see him undermining the club if hes still around doing nothing after the season starts

All Willie has had with Smith was one conversation less than a minute long since Smith arrived, can he take a bigger hint?

The decision was taken well before Brian Smith was on the scene.

And quickly, because anything he does will be associated with this club until he is actually with another one.

Yes playing 1st grade requires elite fitness... anything less is a liability.

Surely any new club's going to run him through a battery of tests to see if he's up for the job before paying big bucks.

Smith not a factor in Willie decision
By Andrew Webster From: The Daily Telegraph January 23, 2010 12:00AM

THE decision to cut Willie Mason adrift was made before Brian Smith was appointed coach. It is a directive that won't change. Mason won't play in the Tricolours again.
"I seriously doubt he will be playing first grade for the Roosters," captain Braith Anasta said in an exclusive blog for The Daily Telegraph yesterday. "But I'm sure he'll play first grade somewhere and I wish him all the best."

Smith won't comment on the situation and chief executive Steve Noyce would only offer: "Willie and I have had a number of chats about his involvement here and the opportunities that may have been elsewhere. How that plays out, I'm not sure."

Behind the scenes, those who matter steadfastly believe that Mason has no place at their club. It is a belief held firm by chairman Nick Politis and the board, and was in place long before Smith was announced as Brad Fittler's replacement. Smith has merely stayed out of it.

The decision to sign Mason in late 2007 had a whiff of getting one up on the Bulldogs, the side that beat them in the 2004 Grand Final.

Now Mason has the Roosters over a barrel. The Roosters won't pay out the final year of his contract - reportedly worth about $400,000 - so another NRL side can snap him up in the second-tier salary cap.

That they are prepared to sacrifice that amount as they cultivate a new culture is significant.

The perception at the top is that Mason has been a toxic influence on the younger players. Many felt he undermined Fittler during the year.

Whether he relocates to Japan, France, another NRL club or the Roosters' feeder club Newtown is of little consequence to the powers that be

Amen to that brother mario. The thing that speaks volumes for me is that the Roosters are prepared to have "the $400,000 man" sitting on the sidelines for 2010 or have him play for another side at a subsidised rate. If that doesn't tell you just how divisive and destructive he is considered to be, then you can't be convinced.

Exactly speaks volumes about Mason that the club is prepared to sit the log on the sidelines for 400K...

It sounds like Manly are the new favourite to sign Willie.

Did you read that in Bec Wilson's column yesterday? Is there any club that stupid cow has NOT mentioned?

I hear he is going to get a run with Sydney FC

It was in the paper yesterday but I didn't hear it from there. I heard it from Willie's side. Mind you Melbourne was a strong option a month ago.

I can't see the point of releasing him to another NRL side. He is sure to come back and make the club look silly.
