  • Damage done to the club

Since Freddy's retirement the club has been going downhill. I know that is stating the obvious but The Roosters club that we all support is a mere shadow of the great Roosters club we used to know and love. I hope 2010 sees a renaissance and I'm not just talking about on field. In all the years I've followed this great club, I've never seen it at a lower ebb (even the dark year of 66 and the late 80's and early 90's), and to me it's a real tragedy to see how far we've fallen in the short space of 5 years. We should've scooped the pool in 04 but for a massive choke that would've done St george/Illa and Greg Norman proud. The first thing I hope Smith does is go back to basics, teach these neanderthals how to tackle because until they learn how to do that they can forget about winning. I'm glad the club flicked Friend but I don't think Jorbs is the answer. We definitely need a decent no9. From now on, hopefully, anyone who misbehaves will be shown the door immediately. They have set a precedent with Friend. We, as a club, have to reintroduce discipline and common decency back into the place for us to move forward and salvage the great legacy that we once had. Right now, I'm embarrased to admit I'm a Roosters fan, something I would've thought once unimaginable.
    Bring on 2010.

Our defence was what set us apart during that period...the last handful of games in 07 and pretty much all of 08 saw little effort in defending our line...even after Freddy retired we were a much better team for 05 & 06 than the effort in that time period mentioned above...

There were still some players willing to put in...and that's our problem is players not willing to put in for 80 minutes...you could go home after a loss satisfied a little if you saw your team trying at least...

Alas, we will only know the answer after about 4-6 weeks of the 2010 season.

Hopefully, we have a game where we are down by 2 or 4 or 6 with 10 to go, then we'll see if Brian has been able to get into the young kids heads. Even if we lose that game, but we can see them trying their guts out, then 2010 will be a good year

Woulda, coulda, shoulda, yes we all agree, but embarrassed to admit I'm
a Rooster fan no way, granted I don't appreciate the disgracefull antics
by some of the players & in all probability the rest of the players don't
          either.

Now I'm going to have a chardy but none of Trewella's sleeping pills.

its obvious that a spirited committed defence is the key to it all? dont forget when the roosters started to show some commitment on that key they were inevitably penalised, time and again, a bit like putting in the boot? conspiracy or not, the refs attitude towards our club has certainly contributed big time towards our downward spiral?

                    You tell 'em Jan!!!!
I agree with Stephenj, though, that there were times when it wouldn't have mattered how well we played the ref's decisions were dubious to say the least!

the defence was what set us apart, the 3 or 4 in a tackle, the fitness to do that for 80mins. but now everyones doing it.

every few years the dominant club seems to revolutionise the game just a little. we need to be able to continue the momentum of change and improvement, and finesse the skills to set ourselves apart once again.
