  • Uncle Nick Rising

The Godfather's pockets just got a little heavier. Uncle Nick has risen to 117 (131 in 2013) on the BRW Rich 200 List, his wealth is now approx. $410 million ($360 million in 2013).

    Good stuff Nicky.

Best to have independently wealthy people with business acumen running our Club.
It's a sure recipe for success.

It is absurd that somebody can accumulate this much while there are people sleeping on the streets.

It's absurd that nurses get payed less than a sports person. But it's choices that everybody makes.

I broadly agree, but I'm not sure it's that simple.

The wealthier you are, the more opportunity you have to get even filthy-wealthier. You have the best accounting, financial advisors, industry connections, sycophantic associates. You essentially buy opportunity.

I'm not saying self-made wealth isn't impressive or laudable, just that choosing to be a nurse is far far more commendable.

Difference is we have decent League's Club money flowing in.

Yes we aren't Penrith or Canterbury but our clubs do quite well.

Teams like Knights and Souffs will struggle when they start losing on the field and/or their owners stop putting up money.

What percentage is league's club money versus money we get from the property investment portfolio versus what we get from the NRL?

                      Chook.

                        Not 100% sure.

Obviously we get our grant from the NRL (6-7 million) which has gone up but so has the salary cap.

Then you have whatever the Footy Club makes after that Easts League's will kick in the difference.

I read for 2013 the grant to the Footy Club was lowest it has been since the 80's, less than a million dollars. Which meant that Easts League's profit was over three million.

Like I said it's not Penrith or Canterbury type money but we are in a decent position.

Regarding property I think that would be included with Easts.

We were going to build another massive club out at Narrellan but apparently we are looking for another location.

I asked before on here what happened but no one replied.

Anyway it looks like we are in the strongest position we have ever been in.

Please don't live in cloud cuckoo land. The vast majority of people who live on the streets do so by choice.

I am 100% in favor of a social safety net for those who cannot help themselves. But anyone can become rich if they are smart enough and dedicated enough.

I'm smart enough but I'm bone idle lazy.
                          SUPER DRAGON!

I said "independently wealthy [who actually own the money]"...and "business acumen".

                              No it's not.
As a young man he left high school and went to university and studied economics.
As I remember it he then was appointed to/allowed to acquire or whatever a Ford car dealership.

It's taken him 50 years of dedication and a lot of hard work to succeeed in business and acquire what he has today.
...including flying around the world and setting up car dealerships in other countries, attending business meetings here there and everywhere all the time.

He's not the one you should be complaining about...it's his-ilk's large amount of tax dollars that are paying for the welfare to support people sleeping on the streets etc.

He taught the Club to fish...catch its own food, build its own successful business, to be able to support itself.

He's not the one you should be complaining about...he employs Australians and pays them proper wages, last time I heard anyway.

Gina Rinehart has used a rare video appearance to repeat her warning that Australians need to work harder to compete with Africans who will labour for less than $2 a day.
