  • we've got gears

I note the criticism of our performance last night despite winning comfortably.

I think the only minus was the handling errors... Take most of those out it would have looked much prettier.

We are building to that stage of the season where we can switch on to meet the needs of the occasion and relevant strength of the opposition. The gears thing..

We have such a quality side that I think the expectations for consistent perfection will always create some disappointment.

We played poorly because Tigers were allowed to stand offside and then rush out attack. I noted one player would rush the receiver and at centres would also rush up to force us in and put pressure where SBW stands.

Although I acknowledge we played poorly in attack, we must acknowledge the role of the Tigers and most importantly the influence of the refs.

All good teams have days off especially when playing dud teams like Balmain. The result was never in doubt, just the execution.

Bit rich labeling Balmain duds , they will role heaps of opposition before this year is over.

I was uninspired by last nights performance as most were. You raise some fair points in your post. Apart from the poor handling, it was the teams propensity to want to spread the ball without doing the hard yards.Only with 5 MINS to go in the first half did we make some decent yardage with some old fashioned go forward.Without knowing what Robbos gameplan, one would think we were a bit slow in recognising that we needed to return to the basics. The Tigers were awful , but against a better team the chooks need to adapt quicker or else. I feel better to put last night down to a bad day at the office.Go Roosters!!!

A lot of teams are rusty after a week off in the middle part of the season when the byes occurr. For Prelim Finals you hope there would be no rust however. In the past few seasons it is well documented that teams struggle after they have the bye. The Tigers had 10 regular first graders out and didn't play last week. We also didn't play last week. I honestly wasn't expecting a super game last night, yet was expecting us to win by at least 20 which is what happened.

Therefore, I am not too concerned about how we went last night. We will be fine against the better sides as JFC has pointed out, we have a 8-speed special baby!!

Funny thing was PD I tipped us to win by 30,close but still felt flat by a team just clicking into 2nd gear. Looking forward to hitting top gear at the business end of the season

Yeah L71...they never really clicked but happy I got some cashola. I had a bet with one of my best mates who is a Tigers man....I gave him 18.5 start which wasn't looking too great at 24-6 with about 10 to go..Needless to say I was relieved when we got the last try but not thrilled with the performance.

                      Hahahaha...L71

I guess he let his loyalty cloud his judgment.

Leaving the fact the Tigers had 10 players out and us die-hards knowing we are probably a shoe-in to get a blow-out win last night.
                      - The NRL website tipped us to win by 6
                      - The sportsbetting agencies had a much skinnier start to the Tigers too.
                      - The Tigers were running 4th and us 5th

On the flipside all the money was coming in for us....we were at home and Tigers had 10 out.

Funnily enough even though we are favourites with the bookmakers some of the so called experts are not convinced...which is why I am making a nice little retainer fleecing my Dragons mate two weeks ago and my Tigers pal last night. I give them more generous starts than the TABs but they are only too eager to accept...

I was listening to Triple last Sunday with Paul Kerrnt, Mattspew Johns, Girds and Moron Tallis. They were asked to nominate at the time who they thought would win the comp. Not one of the dribblers picked us....they picked Souffs, WoManly and Bullscum between thm...I lol'd when they said Dessie was under the radar....with the way they were dribbling on you can say we are under the radar with a lot of the mugs...

I have posted way too many posts in the past day or two. I am going on a voluntary banning for the next 4 days. See you all next week.....

I tend to watch Pearce & SBW more closely because I highly rate them so my expectations of those 2 are very high.

Watching them play last night was torture, to me it was the worst game of footy from those 2 & they know it. SBW will make 7 mistakes whilst handling the ball 10 times. 2 other times he will go to ground & the last 1 will come off & everyone raves about that 1 bit of brilliance while the other 9 times he was shocking.

For me Pearcy dropping the ball cold with the line in front of him was just not good enough & if people say the pass wasn't perfect from SBW then you are just going to support Pearce no matter what. I am a fan of Pearce & in my eyes he should have caught that & scored. His 5th tackle option is woeful 90% of the time in fact I cringe when ever he kicks the ball. All other aspects of his game are fine but because I watch him closely & have high expectations he was disappointing last night.

Even though there was a weekend off from footy last week so you could say some players were a bit rusty but I really expected a much better effort from the Premiers. The main thing is they won even though it was unco ugly but I hope they don't bring that game again this year.

Very glad we won even though we were not at our best. More worried that we will will be without our SOO players for 3 games. We could be missing Pearce (100%), Jimmy (90%) , Boyd (100%), Jennings (100%), Guerria (40%), toops (33%) and friend if anything happens to smith.

If we are missing 6 players cannot see us winning during the SOO period.

And one of those gears is neutral...which we were in for most of last night.

I'm watching it again now...that 11/19 in the first half is eye bleeding worthy.

I hope Robbo revs us up over the coming fortnight as we'll need it to match it with Manly.

                            Chook.

Yes, Robbo is in the firing line now, his honeymoon is over, you blokes might not delve in too much into reality, but all season we have been going like a busted arse, you can dress it up anyway you like but we are crap, and not looking like getting any better, he has had long enough now for the team to fine tuned, but its just not happening. Still no win against a top flight club, and many close wins against crap sides, that we should of put away easy. I allow one exception to that spray, Jake friend has been carrying the club, he is without doubt the best hooker in the comp now, and that includes Smith, without him, we would not of won as many games as we have.. Come on Robbo, prove ya not a one time wonder, fire up there, put some mongrel back into their defence, and somehow teach them to hold and pass a football.
