  • using Maubs as backup to Friend

must say I love the move by Robbo to use Maubs as backup to Friend, many here have questioned why Maubs wasn't used as backup hooker/utility bench spot, it just gives the bench a much better balance and allows us to carry that extra big bopper we can't if Morts is on the bench.

I wonder if Morts would be considering his position at the club now that it is clear he has lost his spot in the pecking order recently, would there be any demand from other clubs to take him before june 30.

with an eye to 2015 we might need the cap space freed up to moving on Morts to either keep Moga or go towards getting Fergo.

it is only for a 5-10 minute to give Jake a spell and then Maubs goes to the backrow, no point carrying Morts on the bench for only 5-10 minutes a match.

when using Maubs he can play 30 minutes backrow, 5-10 minutes hooker.

        Good thread fletch!

I've considered this move for a long time. Personally I feel our rotation is weakened with Morts but we should play him in our 17 against smaller teams and weaker oppositions to rest players.

Maubs is a great idea. He threatened when close to the line last night from dummy half and offers roughly the same that Morts offers minus Morts' excellent backup.

I like the idea and it should be developed over the season. As you say, he can play 30 minutes as a utility with 5-10 as hooker to give Jake a spell.

Not a fan of the maubs at dummy half thing. He's a great ball runner.

Hmmm who was that clown who first floated that grand master flash and the furious backup 9 plan???

              Not Brainiac that's for certain.

He'd have Maubs playing for Pootown if he was Master Chef.

              You know it makes sense.

It's a tough one. Morts gives us spark from dummy half but is also targeted in defence. Maubs offers little from dummy half but is great in defence. His strength is hole running which is useless from dummy half.

Given friend only needs 5-10 minutes rest, I would stick with the maubs option. Morts days might be numbered. I really like liu and fpn on the bench (even though it wasn't liu's best last night)
