  • Brad Fittler in short list for Roosters Hall of Fame

DUMPED Sydney Roosters coach Brad Fittler is set to make a stunning return to Bondi Junction in 2010 - and in a position no one can ever take from him.

Sport Confidential can reveal Fittler heads a shortlist of club greats vying for the honour of becoming the inaugural entrant in a new Roosters Hall of Fame. While the exact details remain sketchy, we understand the club is keen to reinforce its proud history while moving forward from the annus horribilis that was 2009.

And what better way to start than by having fans debate exactly who is the greatest Roosters player of all time? Other legends forming the shortlist, which will be voted on by the public, include Dally Messenger, Dave Brown, Arthur Beetson and Ron Coote. Cult favourites Kevin Hastings and Luke Ricketson are also included.

"Obviously Freddy endured a tough winter with the boys this year but he remains among our favourite sons," one club source said this week. "And while he may be a Penrith boy originally ... mate, I think you'll find a lot of people pushing for him to be the first Hall of Famer."

Surely if starting a Hall of Fame we'd have to induct a solid 50 players immediately and then continue to add them as we go along?

Dave Brown, Kevin Hastings, Arthur Beetson even Ricko should be considered before Fittler for this honour.

      Chook.

Bloody oath - my vote would be for Horrie, then Ricko, then Arthur.

50 seems like a lot... if we add one every season then we'd start getting blokes who really don't deserve to be there. I'd like to see this be an illustrious group rather than something anyone could get into.

i can see it now, time for the induction, fans pay their $50 a head for a ten buck dinner, freddy forgets to turn up? a bit like how he used to forget to turn up at training when he was coach?

I guess for me it would depend on what the hall of fame represented... service, performance, representation etc... there are a few players i think deserving of the honour-surely too after 100+ seasons there'd be more than 1

I like the idea of a starting 5, then add one a season.

My starting 5 would be Daly Messenger, Dave Brown, Ferris Ashton, Artie and Horrie.

Then each year add, Freddie, Ricko, Fitzy or whoever.
