Star back-rower Boyd Cordner has urged the Sydney Roosters to move quickly to re-sign off-contract prop Sam Moa, after his rampaging effort for the Kiwis in Friday’s Test match.

Moa was sensational in New Zealand’s brave loss to Australia and continued his rapid ascension from relative NRL unknown at the start of the 2013 season, to premiership winner and battle-hardened Test front-rower.

He is the Roosters’ highest-profile player off contract at the end of this season and, with money freed up due to the departure of Sonny Bill Williams, he could expect a significant upgrade.

Kangaroos forward Cordner rated Moa one of the game’s leading props and said the club should move swiftly to secure his signature.

“Last year coming in, he burst onto the scene and he was enormous for us,” Cordner said on Tuesday.

“He is great for us, week-in, week-out. He is really consistent; he is one of our best players every week.

“I wouldn’t like to see him go and, hopefully, we can secure him for a long-term deal.

“No one really knew much of him because of his stint over in Super League.

“When he came back, ever since round one, he has proved himself and now he is one of the in-form props of the comp.

“It is just a pleasure playing with him every week.”

Moa’s manager Sam Ayoub met Roosters officials on Tuesday to discuss the 27-year-old’s future, amid interest from two NRL rivals.

“The Roosters tabled us a two-year offer today and we are working through it,” Ayoub said.

Moa starred in a Kiwi side controversially minus his front-row partner at the tricolours Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

The Roosters meet Wests Tigers in round nine of the NRL on Friday at Allianz Stadium and Cordner expects Waerea-Hargreaves to be fired up.

“If anyone knows Jared, he is always positive; he is sweet; he is ready to go on Friday night,” Cordner said.

“He might have been disappointed but Jared just moves on. He doesn’t take that to heart – he will be looking for a big game on Friday night.

“They (Tigers) have played some good footy. In the early rounds, they showed what they can do against Souths and Manly, so we will be ready for a battle up front.”

That's smart. Table a two year deal then go to three when Dirty Ayoub negotiates the better offer. Sam's only 27, we'd get a good three years out of that motor.

      Chook.

Hopefully only offering two years won't deter him, wishing he was going to be offered more

Yep, think we lost wing and Toops because we offered them shorter deals too.

              So do I.

Hopefully our team won't start losing players and fall apart.
It's not always up to the club,...players off contract can and do go wherever they like...often for bigger bucks than their current club can offer at the time.
Money is not everything though, as many players have discovered to their dismay.
Hopefully we tabled Moa our best offer straight up.

Hopefully he's not offered three years with a high sounding total $ value somewhere else and he and Ayoub take that.

Surely two years is not our best offer...so why are we not putting our best offer forward straight up?

                  Two year deal?

                  Seems insulting.

For anyone who follows football closely, I just hope Uncle Nick isn't Florentino Perez, with Sammy as Claude Makelele - the indomitable force of the team underrated because he isn't flashy.

This is a real possibility with whispers of Proctor being offered a motza at the expense of existing proven RWB FGs , if they were serious these players should be first dibs on any extra cash about - Player Loyalty does not pay the Bills with a limited football life.

The current squad has heaps of youth with more locals coming through , the future is bright all round with the current crop , why buy outsiders ? Offer the current squad members up grades and make them at least appear wanted.

Moa is a prime example as are a number of the existing forward pack.

We offer Moa a 2 year deal yet we sign FPN for 4 ??? I can't see the logic or value.. Moa should be our 1st priority

FPN was signed for 2, not 4, is younger than Moa, plays lock, not prop and I suspect is a lot cheaper - why is that even a comparison?

Re-signing Moa is a far greater priority than trying to lure Proctor from the Storm IMHO.

Broncos making a strong play for Moa, but we are favourites to keep him.
