Moley reporting that young hooker Brad Deitz is signing for the Sharks effective immediately.

Any opinions on the kid? He a big loss?

Haven't seen much of the 20's this year myself.

Yeah that is Alex Thomas, quality local junior. He won't be going anywhere. The 20s team really picks up a few gears when he comes back on. Dietz was terrible against the Dragons on the weekend. So many wayward passes. Will be interesting to see what happens with Thomas. He is a very similar player to Friend. Came through juniors as a half so has a great kicking and passing game and play ball out of dummy half well. Very tough and got a bit of zip about him, and produced some great offloads last week. Looks like Friend will be become an 80 minute hooker very soon. In a year or two Thomas would be great coming on and giving Friendy a bit of a break but that may not be needed soon. So will be ever make the first grade bench as a utility that can cover the halves, hooker and maybe even a ball playing tight forward.

Friendy is the next Queensland hooker, and if he develops his leadership role he could be the next Aussie hooker, i rate him on par with Farah at the moment.

Farah has a better running game but he also has brain snaps (SOO 2013 game 3, last 30 seconds). Friend is a better all round player but is yet to develop into a mature leader.

Anyway, Friend wont be going anywhere for a long time. Unfortunately Alex Thomas is too good of a player to sit at Newtown, so he may be out the door within the next few years too, unless we try something to keep him.

Alex Thomas the under 20's captain is Joe Thomas son & just reminds me so much of his dad.

I rate him, he has played all his footy until recently as a 5/8 just like Jake Friend did.

He has been shifted to No 9 because he is tough & would handle the tough stuff in the future in FG IMO.

Thomas is quality...he'll play a Mortimer type role before too long.

Came through the juniors as a 5/8 so this is only his second year at hooker. A lot of potential and the club would be silly to let him go...as good as Jakey is.
