  • Match Fixing claims Quashed

From the SMH, but through the AAP wire not their reporters:

    NRL match-fixing claims quashed
    November 18, 2009 - 2:27PM

Victoria's gambling regulator says there is no evidence to support allegations that the round 26 NRL match between the Sydney Roosters and North Queensland Cowboys was fixed.

The Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation (VCGR) sent a "please explain" letter to the NRL after bookmakers reportedly suspended betting three times before the game when a splurge of bets backed the Cowboys to win by more than 13 points.

The Roosters, who had started favourites, surrendered a 16-0 half-time lead to lose the match 32-16.

The game, played at Sydney Football Stadium in the final round of the NRL regular season, had no impact on the make-up of the finals.

The VCGR said the NRL had fully and properly investigated the matter and recognised the importance of protecting the sport's integrity.

The NRL was approved by the VCGR as a sports controlling body for betting purposes in May last year.

"The VCGR is satisfied that the NRL continues to monitor and maintain the integrity of rugby league," the VCGR said in a statement.

In no way doubting what PG said, i know he knows what has gone on, but as Dubai said..............no specific facts have been brought forward to support the claim publicly.

there were plenty off facts and truths in it, as i have said it was going to be quashed because the Roosters players received no cash incentives/ payments, there was no money trail linking us to the steady of of eddie hayson and his runners bets.

co incidances and putting two a two together meant diddly squat in a court of law.

                no proof simple

I will just say, certain players whether through good luck or good management dodged a rather large bullet

I'd say it was good luck.
There's been no good management at our club for a few years now !

Does this open the door for some legal action from the players against the media?

Never did hear any more about the supposed legal action by the players against the Herald. Or by Hayson against that website

If they are truly innocent then you would have to think they will take action, I know I would....

There will be no legal action, the players should just let it go, all the other bullshit that got people talking would be made public and i dont think they would want that.

Yes it does, definitely. Quite frankly these were enormous allegations that were almost impossible to prove. If the SMH chose to print them then that's their bad luck. That hag Magnay better watch out. Uncle Nick will be on the warpath for sure.

Its got nothing to do with the players' decision Rusty, our club's name has been defamed.
