  • We all need to relax a bit

This whole forum is in meltdown after the two losses we have had in the last two weeks, and it's pretty ridiculous imo

If we had kicked the goal and gone onto win last night, most on here would be saying how good an effort it was to grind out that win, and to win when conditions certainly didn't suit us.

Against manly when we were nothing but robbed, we defended astutely all night, and still crossed the line three times (tupou, cordner and Jennings), which was two times more than manly, but were denied three times.

In terms of our attack, I'm not sure why people are so worried about it. We racked up 50 against the eels in the wet, and as it turns out, the eels aren't what they were last year. We scored 30 against Brisbane and our attack once again delivered when it mattered - it must have some potency to score 80 odd points in two weeks. The last two rounds we have probably had a combined 20-25 tackles in the opposition 20, and crossed the line five times; on a dry surface I say we score 4 out of those 5 (friends no try last night the one that misses out), and probably would have scored a couple of more. To me we look likely pretty much every time we head up the field, even though we aren't at our best yet. On a dry track we win last night for sure.

And our defence is rock solid no doubt. Apart from slip ups against souffs and Brisbane (who scored a few innocuous tries that night) we have conceded 20 points over the other three games, and, with the amount of possession teams have had in our 20 in two of those games (dogs and manly), that 20 points conceded would be closer to 60 for most other sides.

The fact of the matter is, we are the premiers, and these results may, unlike last year, not always go our way, as teams target us. When we get our full team back, which means more consistent go forward (Liu was a welcome return last night), I'm confident we will further improve and the results will start to turn. I know Trent agrees, he stated on a few occasions last night that we know where we are headed and he is proud of our performances, which I am too. He is confident, the boys are confident, and we all should be too. I think we will win next week, beat the dragqueens on Anzac Day and then give it to the tigers after that too.

    We will be right.

I did think there were signs of improvement last night Im pissed off royally with the decision not to take a shot at goal though and this is where my angst from last night lies
I respect all our moderators here. Past present and even future. Always have done and always will do a wonderful job.

Thank you, but talking sense on this place after a loss, let alone two in a row, is like herding cats.

      Good luck.

      Chook.

A good post, I did predict we would be 2 and 3 after 5 rounds as Robbo's number 1 priority going into this season was not burning the players out before it matters. Don't be surprised to see us around the 50-60% win record mark even as deep as halfway into the season, we'll come good late though.

Thanks mate, I don't understand the pessimism on here. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I think we should all have more confidence in the team

I totally agree i'd rather be peaking at the business end of the season. The boys have been there and done that so if we can be there or thereabouts at the business end of the season we are in with a massive shout. Our D has been great under the circumstances. Our attack is a little rusty and our go forward isn't where it should be. But a few wins over the next month is certainly not out of the question considering the draw.Certainly not panic stations.

Yep. Frustrating that we lost this game based on one bad decision to take the tap.

On the flipside, the only reason we lost against a very good side (Dogs are definitely top 6) in conditions that suited them much better than us, was one bad decision to take a tap.

Good thread this. It sums up my feelings about it all rather well.

The wrist slitting going on from the likes of sausage is severe drama at its campest.

The Bulldogs were fantastic last night and I can only commend them on their performance. Their forwards played with a controlled aggression, their halves kicked to perfection, and their backs were consistent throughout.

Easts were very good too. Jennings has his best game so far, and I thought RTS was getting heavily involved as well. Liu made a huge difference and Friend was again great. The bulldog's kicking game had us playing inside our half for much of the game, and as such our kicks were often under pressure and went down the throat of Perret.

In summary, one team had to lose, and both sides had their chances. Bulldogs are worthy victors, but Easts were in it again and could have nabbed it.

Stop sweating 2013 - it's in the past and living it now is a certain path to madness. It's 2014 and it's a new comp. We'll peak at the right time. The signs are there.

I'm off to watch the Jets with my daughter. Hopefully we can exact some revenge against those Dogs.

There is a reason no one has won two straight GFs for the last 20 years.

Everyone aims up when they play last years premiers.

I think we aren't playing that badly. So far other than Watsamatta everyone's thrown everything at us.

I reckon the coach has a plan and it's to not burn the farkers out in the first month. He knows there's a long way to go.

                    Silly sausage for PM.

How can I possibly relax when Sausage is posting an "end of the world is nigh" message every few minutes? I'm hiding under my house with a blanket over my head and trembling uncontrollably.

                        I don't understand that.

Is he saying, "boys, only give 80% effort during this game so as to keep fresh later in the season"?

How do you not burn the players out, if you're giving 100% every game (which we are of course)?

Cos I don't think we are anywhere near peak as yet mate.

Fitness or execution or performance wise.

But I see the signs, like last season at this stage, especially defensive wise.

We start games slow and usually come home. We did the same with the last season, slow start and powered home.

I believe we can do something similar this year.

                            I hope so.

It is a bizarre competition this year ... there's about 8 teams all on par with each other atm. So a record of 14-10, with our good defence for F&A, could well be good enough for top 4.

Last year we had an aura about us ... this year we look like damp squids and teams are eating us alive up the middle. We used to make 60, 70m a set to put us in a good position where as atm we're struggling to get over half way!

But our biggest concern is Maloney ... he's crucial to our team and if he continues to stink it up then we won't click as an attacking unit.
