You are allowed. You see players do it to stop team mates being tackled over the sideline, in their own goal line etc. The ruling was that the last man in, which was Perrett, didn't get a fair chance to tackle Friend. Which was bullshit. Channel nine showed the replay and it was questioned by the commentators.
