I know you're taking the Mickey Lane, but the Eastern Suburbs legend Dave Brown forced the league to change the rules back in the 30's.

These rule changes are to try and stop the wrestle. I don't want the wrestle but I don't like these new interpretations either. They need to slow in down a bit, not speed it up. It's not even between attack and defence anymore, the attacking side gets the rub of the green.

I am not sure about the new rules as yet.

IMO it's too early to judge the impact, as it's too early to judge form etc.

Coaches and players haven't had enough time to counter the new rules, as is always the case.

Also the Reffs tend to over do new rules at first to make a point, they always seem to settle into a pattern as the season goes along.

Where maybe a tweak in the new rule could be made is rewarding a one on one low grassing tackle. Cos there is still zero advantage to tackle correctly. Usually it's actually a disadvantage cos the defender has to instantly let go and the attacker gets a quick play the ball.

Watch defenders. The first two in hold the player up so the third can cannon into their legs then everyone falls to the ground peeling off. That's the new wrestle. It's superseded dominant tackles.

Encouraging one on one low tackles, by that sort of tackle being the ONLY way to get a dominant style call, is the only way I can see where we can really to begin to eradicate the wrestle.

Maybe the new rules will help. Too early to make a call either way IMO. Makes good radio/forums/newspaper discussion.
