A mum rang the radio this afternoon and said that her 6 year old son wanted to play RL with his mates, and that they applied to join Our Lady of [something] team at Greystanes in western Sydney, that plays on weekends.
She said that his two mates were accepted, but he was rejected because of his faith.
...or lack of it in this case.
He was rejected because he's not a baptised Roman Catholic.
The team is affiliated with a Roman Catholic school, which you don't have to be Roman Catholic to attend.
You do however have to be a baptised Roman Catholic to play in the team for little kids at weekends.
The mum said her little boy is disappointed.
No worries, as soon as the listening audience was informed a woman from the Greystanes Devils rang in and said that the boy is welcome to play with in their team.
Then a man rang in from the Winston Hills Tigers and said the boy is welcome to play in their team.

i can understand it maybe if the young boy was a committed muslim on a jihad but a different branch of christianity? surely this goes back to the war in northern ireland?
and no stirling was not better than horrie!
It is the right of every religious organisation to have a set of biases to people who support their religion. It's a private school and can make it's own rules. That goes for Catholic, Hebrew and miscellaneous.

It gets public funding from taxpayers.
Also, the NRL/NSWRL is its master.
If they wanna start a religious war, or continue the one started in NI, then that's their choice...but it's no way to act in today's world...especially when students don't have to be Roman Catholic to attend the affiliated school.
If they think they're winning in NI they have another think coming.
Silly me...I thought the NRL was an equal opportunity, inclusive employer...and it made the rules for weekend kids League teams.
Obviously not.
Hmmm, maybe it made this rule.
I'm sure I saw girls in "Muslim dress", complete with hijabs, playing in a junior footy team at Allianz stadium on one of our match days last year of the year before...'inclusion', 'every child has a turn'/'every child wins a prize'.
Rejecting little kids from joing a team with their mates, on religious grounds?
Baaah...there oughta be a law!
