I tend to agree with you Geo... we'll get hammered for this but Sia looks like he will have a good future in the backrow. Granted he still is a very average defender although I don't think he got caught out as much tucking in that little bit tighter in the second row. He has good leg speed, mobility and when he does hit everyone knows about it... he had a pretty good work rate as well in the few games he did get a run there. I think with some good coaching he would've been very handy although not a huge loss as we've got some good depth in the backrow already.

He still has hands like feet.

I think we've improved... Wonderkid Carney to provide the spark our team needs... Speed and experience in the backs by Graham... Ryles an experienced prop... and a few promising kids in the backs as well as JWH who could turn out to be anything. Along with all our young FGers with more experience.

Biggest improvement as you say though will be the coach and the new structures in place.

My point being is that we have a new coach, that is the change that will be the most influential at the club.

Players like carney will improve the side yes, but it will be smith that will be the key to getting the players performing and getting the right attitude.

like i said, most of the side is the same from last year, the mass clean out has not happened. It is how Smith works with what he has that is the key.

Fittler could not use what he had, thats why there is such a negative opinion of the players. The players looked bad because the coach had no control.

The players' heads must be spining at the total change of persona and attitude of their head coach. Brian Smith can only improve them, both as individuals as well as footy players.

If nothing else they'll learn a whole new vocabulary. Maybe even a few 'big words' for some of them.

Actually it is exactly the opposite.....

Every single player I have spoken to is excited and eager and really wrapped with the changes and differences that have been implimented so far and they can not wait for season proper to come around.....

So does arguably our greatest fullback in the past few decades. Plenty of technology and training techniques to help him if he really wanted to or if it was provided to him. He'd never be perfect but it's easy to iron out little parts of people's games like that and I think we'll start to see it more and more as Smith gets into their heads.

I think he would've suited the modern day backrower... a shame he copped so much from the fans especially when he was such a credit to himself and the club off the field.

ok i'll put it like this.

Lets be hypothetical here.

It's 2010, round 1, carney has signed with us and fittler is still coach.

I can guarantee that regardless who we signed if fittler was still coach, regardless who we signed, we would be up the shit.

my point i am trying to get that is the change of coach is a bigger change in the side rather than the players being signed.

We went from a top 4 side with a team that the next year got the spoon.

I have said all along, the players we have are talented, it was the way they were used and coached by fittler that got us where we are/were.

Carney and grahame are pluses, and will show how good they are under smith.
