  • Pretty rusty..... still won easily!

Well I think it's safe to say we weren't that impressive tonight. Our attack is not yet fluent, which is still understandable since we haven't played together in five months. However we still scored 6 tries and bombed another 3-4 which is a good sign.

Defence wasn't too bad I thought, apart from that early part of the second half where Wigan came hard. Also very understandable considering its out first game and we are entitled to be a bit rusty.

But the fact of the matter is we won and won easily.... I suggest the other poor 15 teams that have to face us when we improve should be very very careful

yeah even when they got it back to 24-14 I still wasn't too worried, gave us the wake up we needed.

Napa's got to be in our 17 Round 1, for the big hits alone!

Yes rusty is putting it mildly, we were terrible, by our standards, and still put a good side away without a full trial game together, so things will only improve, just a couple of niggling problems that are still in our game, that need to be addressed are
        1. Jake & BBQ, nearly always push the envelope in tackles, and come very close to being penalised every time, for pot plant actions, like holding down, pretending to have arms caught up with the tackled player, etc, get that rubbish out of your games boys, you don't need it.
        2. Has Mini stayed a year too long, he made more errors tonight , then he made all last season, as for Bowen, Wigan got a dud signing there.
        3. Near the end of the game, we get a line drop out from Wigan, no one was aware of the short dropout, and they got possession back, and a dumb penalty as well, so from a line drop we ended up on halfway, on tackle one, when we should of had the ball.

You make some good points, but I don't think that's particularly fair on Mini. IMO the try that Wigan scored off the bomb was Tupous catch, and Mini shouldn't have been required to sprint 60m to catch it; I think he did a good job just to get there. He was also unlucky with the ball he dropped over the line, considering Bowen stood there and didn't even try and catch it, which put him off. And then there was the time where he did outjump Bowen and caught the ball and almost scored, where it was only a loss of footing that denied his try.

Overall I thought Mini played good and was unlucky with his mistakes..... except that bomb he dropped in the middle of the second half in open play

I really like the look of remi casty, looks like a very good tackler and pretty solid with his hitups

one thing we really need to watch is our play the ball. looks like the 9s touch footy style play the balls are in. we need a foot to touch the ball or as the rules say an attempt.

if we don't , penality time

Haha we've been doing that since the start of last year. Jared and Sammy are legends at it ... but shush. Don't want the refs to catch on!

Mini needs to go back to the 2013 blueprint: play within your limitations, don't try to do anything brilliant which involves passing or handling because you are not brilliant at passing or handling, just play it safe as a competent and experienced backup to the star players in the team

It's a pre season game ... I would expect silly errors ... we still smashed the Super League champions who are into their season and who "apparently" smacked Souths around". I don't think criticism is warranted at this stage just yet

Constructive criticism is always warranted, if it leads to silly errors being eliminated from our sides game. It doesn't hurt to keep them on their toes. Heaven knows, wives do it to us all the time, lol.

Admittedly St. George are unlikely to do much damage this year but with about 15 minutes to go the score was 38 -4.

Take out Reynolds and Keary it was a pretty handy performance and I for one certainly won't be underestimating them in Round 1.

I am sure that the players will get lots of constructive criticism from our coach. They won't find any of it here though.

All in all, a very good hit out from our boys. I was impressed with the way Wigan threw the ball around and they tested our defence.
