The following are my thoughts regarding this topic that I posted on another thread regarding the 9's. My opinion is the same with the only thing that I would add is a few other possible players to choose from for the squad such as Elliot, Kara, Houma, Rokolati (if he is still at the club?), and the two new signings for the Jets Davis and Harris.

I'm looking forward to watching the 9's tournament, good attacking football to be watched and by the time it comes around we would have been starved of footy. The thing is though I couldn't care less if we don't reach the finals in it. I would much rather see plenty of our young players given a go and see how they perform, while keeping our stars back safe and fresh ready to go for the world club challenge and round 1 against the vermin which is far far more important!! No use taking any risks in this while entertaining, meaningless tournament.

I don't see our top 17 players gaining anything from playing in this tournament, whereas plenty of our young blokes can benefit.

I would select the squad for the 9's tournament out of the pool of 20 players below. Picking the top 6 players from the list should meet the selection criteria required. Allow all the other guys like SBW, Pearce, Friend etc etc to concentrate on the world club challenge and round 1. Winning this tournament is not a priority, it would just be a bonus. I know that I will enjoy watching these young blokes run around and see what they have.

      Tupou
      SKD
      Morts
      Maubs
      Evans
      Langi
      Taukeiaho
      Reuben
      Hastings
      Macdonald
      Milne
      Blair
      Martin
      Meehan x2
      Naughton
      Goodsell
      Thomas
      Deitz
      Cornish

      Here's looking at you, kid.

I don't get why people bag growth and promotion of the game. I don't get why people bag trying to bring new fans, sponsors and organisations to the game. Same group of people who in one breath bag Origin, World Cup, 9's and All Stars etc, which promote and bring $$$ to the game/clubs, and then the next breath complain when the NRL $$$ can't compete with union, soccer and Afl.

I can't wait to watch the 9's, I am spewing that it's not in Brisbane because me and my mates would have spent the day in sunshine watching all skills and 'fun' that has some what been coached out of the game on display for two days or however long it goes for. I can say that because I am a league fan first and a roosters fan second.

As a chooks fan I don't want to see RTS/SBW/Jennings etc there. I want to see likes of Meehan, Evans etc or see SKD get some attacking confidence back. There's lot of positives to be had for some of our players being involved, just like a number of players went back to their clubs and perform better after being involved in all stars.

And before people go on about injuries.... Players get injured at training and miss entire seasons so the injury argument is irrelevant to me. It's all part and parcel.

Its a fun concept and potentially highly entertaining. I loved the 7s when it operated.

Even if we have a hybrid 2nd grade and bantams roster its still a good chance to see how they go.

I read somewhere that 1 out of the top 5 paid players of every team has to play. So for us I'm guessing SKD or Maubs.

I prefer it compared to the stupid all-stars idea.
At least our team is represented.

I remb when it was on back in the day a real specticle and very entertaining I am looking forward to it.

                  FYI

All 16 NRL clubs will feature and must supply 12 of their top 25 contracted players within their 16-man squad. But the tournament may be robbed of some of its star quality with most of the World Cup players set to be ineligible because of the tournament's late finish this year. The World Cup final is on November 30.

Who is in our top 25 list? Is that something to be finalised yet?

No he's a Holy Cross Ryde product. Played schoolboy footy alongside Luke Brooks & Mitchell Moses.
