Toups does look like he has bulked up a bit which is great!! He certainly needed to as he was too thin, which allowed the opposition to drive him back in tackles on many occasions. Also getting bigger should help with his defense, as he did have some bad missed tackles with some leading to tries.

I don't want to sound to critical of him cause he did some amazing things for us this year and had a very good season. The thing for me though is that there is so much more scope for improvement with him by bulking up and gaining more strength. He could be in for a huge year next season, a very scary prospect for opposition defenses!
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

      Here's looking at you, kid.

I agree, partly. Was happy with his defensive efforts on a whole. His consistency in kick returns and hit ups in general was average. To watch him dominate some teams with hit ups and then watch him get belted in others is confusing to say the least.... I put it down to consistency of intensity... His weight/technique may have more to do with it than I think, but for me it was lack of intensity on consistent basis.

Aubs is training is arse off, as is jakey. Good to see toups add some muscle. First thought to pop up when I saw the photos was izzy folau. Toups can jump in the air, ( as seen in the gf & preliminary final) now he just needs to work on a big left foot step. He can well and truly be the next izzy..

Unbelievable, finally dialogue from you with substance. I will show you the respect back in return.

Yes it was a bit confusing with Toups at times with as you say, dominate 1 week with damaging runs and then the next week get dominated and driven back in tackles. Being his 1st season in the top grade is understandable that the consistency can be lacking at times.

Without doubt though, by bulking up and gaining strength will be of huge benefit to him in improving his game. Should hopefully put an end to seeing him get driven back in tackles. Will also help him in defense, as I did see him get brushed off with ease at times.

Some people here aren't happy unless in your first full first grade season, you're playing better than Izzy was in his last season before defecting.

I know I was expecting the world from him and he failed to deliver: p.

No one has bagged him Florence. He had a good season but there's room forimprovement, and no one has said anything less. I mean look at you and your avatars. You look to make improvements.

Yes, for his first full season of first grade, he done very well, but improvements were required for him to continue to improve, and I am sure both himself and our coaching staff, are attending to that, because of his height, he did need to bulk up his upper body strength, which looks like what has happened, and they will be working on his tackling technique, no doubt about that, but in the air, he was the best winger going around, last season, and that will only get better with the confidence his new body structure affords him.
One thing he needs to learn, is to see when he is running out of space in attack, when the play is getting close to the side line, and he takes the last pass, and easily gets pushed over the sideline, he needs to come back inside, so he in a position to take a pass, back on the inside, and avert the sideline. Again that will come with coaching and experience.

It's called the slippery slide into the Abyss Madman

But I take your point......he will be a scary proposition in the coming seasons if he continues to improve.

I doubt any winger could have played better than Toups in that final, not bad for a kid

all class every time he touched the ball, I especially admire his maturity & humility following a try.

Toups is not one to celebrate, execution is bottom line for him without theatrics

He will be Izzy version 2.1 next season.

What I enjoyed about Toups performance in the GF is that while RTS got the accolades for the year, Toups stepped up to show what he's capable and wasn't fazed about 'being' 2nd best according to the 'experts' and also not fazed about the Manly onslought in the first few minutes. Someone he's age would buckle with the attention given to him by the Manly players. Toups coped with it well.

Along with Toups I would love to see SKD and Evans bulk up.

Evans has long thin legs which I think can be quite susceptible to injury. He already has sustained a 12 week lower leg injury this year, so I would really like to see a focus on him to add some size and strengthen up his legs. It will make him even more of a damaging runner with the ball and help him to be much less vulnerable to injury.

SKD imo has had a real inability to bust through tackles since his 1 great year in 2010. Pound for pound I see SKD as being probably the weakest player in our club. I can see him benefiting hugely by bulking up his entire body, putting on loads of muscle and gaining lots more strength. This will enable him greatly to bust through tackles, as well as improve his defense out of sight which would be of big benefit for the team, and get him back to the type of form which earned him the best center in the comp like he was in 2010.

I actually disagree there. I think Skidsy needs to gain muscle, but not necessarily gain weight. You see him with his top off and he just looks a bit 'soft' for a top-line footballer.

I reckon the broken jaw will have allowed him to shed some fat, and hopefully replace it with some genuine core muscle, allowing for a sharper, more explosive SKD.

Hopefully when he takes off in 2014 he won't stand there spinning like Wil-e Coyote anymore.
