What a strange addition. Personally I have never rated the bloke and wouldn't want him anywhere near my club but hey my opinion means shit. Robbo must have seen something in him that I haven't. Hope he does well for the Roosters all the same though.

Did you watch the World Cup? All it does is rain in that cold, damp, sunshine forsaken country. I'm surprised someone hasn't noticed webbing between the toes of one of the Burgi.

        Chook.

He's a poor coach and generally unpopular amongst England Rugby League fans.

His team selections are sometimes bordering insane and he does like his favourites.

I can only think his appointment has been made by Roosters to lure and influence top English players interested in jointing the NRL following captures by other clubs of the likes of Graham, Burgess', Tomkins and Mossop. Also, he'll be cheap as he has a contract with the RFL.

Are there any highly-rated, or promising, coaches in the ESL?

Our coach Shaun Wane won the Grand Final and Challenge Cup last year. What was special about that was that 11 of the 17 man squad are from our academy system that Shaun Wane coached before becoming head coach and he regularly introduced academy players into the squad through out the season. He is a proud Wiganer and has created a fantastic culture within the club influenced from when he played for us in our glory days of the late 80's and early 90's.

Other than him, Brian McDermott has had success with Leeds though lacks consistency during the regular season and Paul Anderson has had the consistency with Huddersfield but did miserably in the playoffs.

The way forward in my opinion is for NRL coaches come over to do a year at a particular club with a young English coach purposely assisting with an aim to take the reigns. Although Michael McGuire was relatively unknown at the time, he revolutionised Wigan with Wane as his assistant, who has since gone on to continue his work but with his own influence added. it was the same scenario or your coach now, Trent Robinson who has passed the Catalans head coach reigns onto Laurent Frayssinous.

                Meh...

We'll see how good your coach is after we put 40 on ya's in the WCC.

The calibre of coach won't determine the result. It'll be because Roosters generally play to a much higher standard in a better league. unfortunately, Wigan are restricted to a less competitive lower capped league.

At the same level, Robinson has never finished above Wane in the league.

Shaun Wane is rumoured to heading to NZ Warriors in some shape or form in the next few years.

Mal Reilly was such a tough hombre as a player and coach but despite his success at club level here and in the UK he couldn't get your National team to beat us in a series.

                    It's all about the cattle.

A good coach can inspire average players but rarely pull off a miracle, like Bwian Smiff.

But it still takes a very good coach with very good cattle to get the job done.

Some shit coaches can ruin a very talented side, like Steve Kearney at this years WC.

I don't see any problems signing McNamara. So far Coach Robbo has nailed his recruitment both player and support staff wise.

If he's that bad I'm sure he will be sent back before he can do any damage.

                    You know it makes sense.

in 2003 we beat st Helens, and they were the best the poms had and it was a real close game 38 to nil. this was a record for the wwc as the highest win, the highest margin and the first time the opposition has been held to a 0. we were the first aussie team to do these and the last highest score in the wcc was us ages ago. so repeat time for the new highest margin, highest win with the oppo being held to 0.........go chookies

I don't know the guy but can his story be compared to that of JT?

Solid player (no world beater but solid) who went into coaching. First season he did okay, afterwards he lost the support of the Bunnies and went downhill. His lowest point was copping a fist in the jaw from some w@nker, followed by a sacking.

My understanding is he then volunteered to help out with some simple technique training for Easts (kicking...etc) and has now worked his way up to being assistant coach.

Now I think we are lucky to have JT. He is a flawed coach but knows his tactics and his kicking. He also wants to prove/challenge himself.

IMO Easts have a lot of players/staff involved who want to prove themselves. I like this because we're constantly building.

Bring on the new talent... England nearly beat Australia and NZ in the World Cup with a significantly less talented line-up compared to both.
