The Lurker - NRL Rumour File

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson isn't a spoilsport - but he's far from pleased his grand final winning players were partying it up in Los Angeles and Las Vegas this week. The Roosters were treated to a week in the USA by millionaire chairman Nick Politis as a reward for their stunning premiership win. And although it has been labelled a 'training camp' to avoid possible salary cap issues, make no mistake - the players are enjoying themselves. Sources close to Robinson tell me the workaholic coach would far rather his players spend the week training - like most of their rivals for the 2014 crown. The Roosters get a break for Christmas upon their return and Robinson is concerned that layoff, on top of the week in the USA, is not the ideal build-up for what is certain to be a demanding campaign next season as rival clubs attempt to knock the Roosters off their perch.

Might have been better to delay the trip until after the GF next year, due to the world cup making the trip come at an inconvenient time with Robbo's plans. It could have then served as a double celebration!
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

                  Here's looking at you, kid.

I am thinking a rest is just the ticket after such a long season mate.

With so much talk of player burn out and the fact it's been 20 years since we saw a genuine back 2 back premiership team I see value in the players taking a more relaxed approach to training before chrissy.

In fact weren't the 16 blokes who played in the WC exempt from training till after chrissy??? 20 went to Vegas so it's only a handful more missing who have been training anyways.

Strange article really. He's saying we face a demanding schedule next season but is questioning an extra weeks rest the players are getting.

I'd have thought the reverse, that extra week now off may just be the thing that keeps the key players fresh at the back end of 2014.

What you say makes sense and I agree with you mate. It does depend though on what Robbo thinks, as we don't actually know if the lurker's mail is accurate. It could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for him if he does in fact wish that the trip didn't take place at this point in time, cause as you say it can help to avoid player burn out after such a long season.

I would have to think the coach rebuilt the club on trust mate.

As promised by Uncle Nick, the players are due a trip to Vegas for winning the comp.

With the WC there really was no other time to do it but now.

I reckon team harmony and reward are big on the coaches agenda from the way they performed this year.

That's where pRicky erred IMO, trying to be the hardarse when he already had broken the players and got the result.

What section of the media is The Lurker attached to mate???

If its a NewsFilth publication I doubt the nameless faceless one has even spoken to anyone in our organisation.

                        Just a space filler methinks.

The lurker is found on the site sportal.com.au. He could be just pulling our leg, or could be a case of Chinese whispers and he has the wrong end of the stick?

It does seem that there are some people out there who are jealous that our club is successful and rich, and that our players are going away on an all expenses paid trip to the states. Fark em mate!

Why the **** would a source close to Robbo be divulging his thoughts to the Lurker?

What a steaming pile of fabricated shite.

My favourite ever Luker rumour from 2 weeks ago....

Well maybe not my favourite, SBW demanding the captaincy was gold but this is still a great laugh

                                Storm have front
The Melbourne Storm have attempted to poach classy Canberra youngster Sam Williams in a bid to solve their halfback problems for 2014. With Gareth Widdop off to the Dragons and Brett Finch retiring, the Storm have realised they are short of an experienced player to partner Dally M winner Cooper Cronk in the halves. The 2012 premiers made an approach to Williams, who is under contract to the Raiders for next season, hoping for a release. But the Raiders, despite having a glut of halves in Terry Campese, Josh McCrone, boom youngster Mitch Cornish and Williams, rejected the approach. The Storm were also keen on former Bulldog Daniel Holdsworth, but he is off to the Sharks. At this stage, that leaves Craig Bellamy to go with talented rookie Ben Hampton in the number six jersey. Hampton played a handful of NRL games last season and looks a player of promise - but could struggle being thrust into the hot seat for a full season.
