Isn't the Jack Gibbson medal awarded based on votes by peers?

It's awarded to long serving/valued servants of the club in acknowledgement of their loyal efforts.

This years recipient - The Tesoriero Family recognises Ross (gear/football steward) & his 2 boys who assist him.

If he did then it's probably why Tupou got it.
He did win it last year. It was decided last year that the winner receives an all expenses paid trip for 2 overseas.

Well done SBW. Maloney would have been my next pick.

Nephew of Joe Thomas. Alex captained our SG Ball team in 2012 playing 5/8. Stepped up and played hooker due to Clarrie Moore recovering from shoulder surgery and certainly made a fist of it. Next year he and Brad Deitz will share the role.

Many other players had a great year including SBW but what he brought to the club was more than what we saw on the field. Many players have admired his dedication to excel and have been motivated by him. That is something great sportsmen can do. I doubt that had we not had him we would have achieved what we did, Robbo or not. SBW deserves it all.

That's right GMan. It was first awarded in 2004 in honour of life member 'mocca' Van Heekeren ( a long serving and valued servant of the club) and was another initiative of Harry Phipps. P.s. Mocca is my father.

So i guess the rising star award cant be won by the same player twice ?
Its awesome that so many of our players deserve the Jack Gibson Medal , there were so many stand out
                  performers this year
Im positive next year wont be any different
This team could really become a powerhouse over the next few years for sure

I concur completely with Mini winning the James Mathews award. If anyone embodies what James Mathews stood for in his far too brief career, it's Anthony.
                    SUPER DRAGON!

I'm surprised Moa didn't win an award, has been a revelation this year.

                      Chook.

SBW kept the ship steady when the others were on SOO duty, & was pivotal in winning us several games. Next Maloney, JWH & Friend.

As I understand it, it is voted on by the players after the games and the coaching staff after they review the games. They updated the votes during the evening. Jake was up there. Boyd Cordner leading at one stage but obviously missed out because of so much time lost to injury.

                          I think SBW deserved it.

its easy to remember the flashing shit SBW did, but its the toiling work he did that got him the award.
He worked bloody hard on the field

Agree. Aside from his noted pivotal runs and lethal hits, SBW's 1% efforts in covering defence and diffusing kicks clearly stood out for mine. It's these qualities that will rub off on our youngsters particularly Boyd.

I'm happy for him to win it based on his defence alone in the Major Semi against WoManly. He was unbelievable, the 41 tackles recorded against him did not do his performance justice, and he ran over 100m that day as well.
If we didn't win that game, I had fears of 1987 coming back to haunt us again.
