  • SBW Misses Training, But Cordner Runs

Sonny Bill Williams sat on the sidelines for Sydney Roosters training on Wednesday, but Boyd Cordner firmed as a likely starter for Sunday's NRL grand final by taking part in the session.

Cordner and fellow forward Luke O'Donnell are fighting to prove their fitness for the decider against Manly, and both participated in the light field session at Moore Park in an encouraging sign for the Roosters.

Superstar second rower Sonny Bill Williams didn't have his boots on and sat and watched as his teammates warmed up with ball drills.

Williams was hampered by a calf injury in the lead up to the final series but hasn't missed a game though he was suffering from food poisoning when he played last Ned Catic weekend's preliminary final win over Newcastle.

He was wearing a compression sock on Wednesday but wouldn't appear to be in any doubt for what could be his last game of rugby league.

The Roosters are desperate for Williams to re-sign with the club, but the dual international is strongly weighing up a return to rugby union.

Neither Cordner nor O'Donnell was named in the Roosters' 17-man grand final team, but many believe both will be included.

Cordner has missed seven weeks with a broken ankle and has been racing the clock to be fit for the grand final.

Coach Trent Robinson has indicated he will rush the Dally M second rower of the year back for the clash if he's anything close to full fitness.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season and played for NSW in the third State of Origin game in Sydney.

O'Donnell missed last week's preliminary final win over Newcastle with a hamstring injury, but running on Wednesday is a good sign for the veteran forward.

The former North Queensland hardman has grand final, State of Origin and Test experience, a valuable asset on league's biggest stage.

Manly meanwhile are refusing to rule out a stunning comeback by forward Joe Galuvao for the grand final.

Galuvao has missed most of the season with an achilles injury but is aiming to be included on the Sea Eagles' bench.

Awesome for us fans, bad news for some players

Can't recall a time when all of our players are available especialy at this time and I would hate for some to miss but especially for Napa and though I do think Guerra will be in, I hope he isn't omitted to put in Cordner. Guerra has been great in the last few games.

I once played a Ned Catic final for school. I kept dropping the ball.

That's the second time his names come up recently in a wtf situation.

The other was the Kangaroos train on squad after round 26.

Somehow he made it there too.

              Bizarro.

              The FlogPen .

              You know it makes sense.

no way Guerra will miss out

                  if his name means 'war'

not having him amounts to waving the white flag

He has been good... will rightly feel cheated if he's dumped after scoring 2 tries and playing solid footy. He also plays back row/centre... maybe punt Skids and sub him with Maubs?

                    Then the bench can be:
                    - LOD
                    - Napa
                    - Morts
                    - Maubs

Maybe not but it's a great squad to have!! So many options, all just as deadly, with no compromises.
