Sydney Roosters captain Anthony Minichiello has given the minor premiers a pre-finals boost, declaring he will almost certainly remain with the club until the end of next season.

The subject of speculation in recent months as a result of interest from Super League outfit Wigan, the Roosters veteran revealed on Monday that he was set to sign off on a new one-year deal with the club he debuted with in 2000.

”It’s very close,” Minichiello said. ”It’s all pretty much done. I’ve just got to let my manager sort out the final details.”

Minichiello had been targeted by the Wigan Warriors, who are set to lose their fullback Sam Tomkins to the New Zealand Warriors. But the Roosters’ No.1 rejected the interest from the Super League club and vowed to re-sign with the Roosters.

”I love the club,” the 33-year-old said. ”I never want to leave. I can’t imagine myself wearing another jersey to be honest.

There is no chance he will retire if we win the GF. He might love the club and all but at the end of the day, he ain't playing for free.
He is not going to sacrifice a year's salary just becasue he wins a competition.
Suggestions he will retire if we win are ridiculous.
He is a competitor and probably wants to play another 5 years!

Congratulations to Mini. He earned it the hard way and it is well deserved.

I don't think he'll change his mind if we win - but if I were him, I would be hanging up my NRL boots if we go all the way.

                      It can't get any better.

Still, it's nice that he'll be here another year. A genuinely good bloke who works hard individually and for the team, and has come through some pretty rough stuff to do so.

That said, it would be backwards to play Mini at fullback next year. I would have him on the wing - Sheck will be ready.

There has to be a slow transition from Mini to RTS. Whilst we are on top, there is no need to change just for the sake of changing. RTS IMO is not ready for a fulltime FB role. While Mini is still in that position and doing a good job, lets just keep that going. RTS will get his go and I rather that being when he is ready OR when things turn bad.

Although i'd be more than happy go to see Mini go around again next year, I think this is quite possible.
