  • Ron Coote Cup

I must say that the presentation of the Ron Coote Cup to Sutton only enhanced my enjoyment of this evening's festivities. It reminded me of the ribbons they give to less athletically gifted primary school students that say "I participated in an event".

LOL I loved it too. He was probably 3/4 of the way to the dressing shed before being called back to get it.

All these cups between different teams mean fark all, how many do we play for now,4-5? There are so many around now that they have become meaningless.

I think they all have their meanings.
Imagine a trophy cabinet at the end of the year with the Foundation Cup, The ANZAC Cup, The Jack Gibson Cup, The Ron Coote Cup (which we should have seeing it was 1-1 over the year), the Minor Premiership and the Premiership.
There wont be any room left!

Kick in the guts to Ron Coote though ... he was more embarrassed then anyone having to hand a trophy to a bunch of losers ....

The Broken Bear Cup is my favourite, and I'm envious that we don't get to play for it.

                    Not.

Oh don't be mean. The Bandaged Bear cup between Parra and Canterbury is for Westmead Childrens Hospital. Wait until you have a relative in there and then see how much good they do and how much fun those children get to have when players go and visit them.

Gosh yes. Ron was so humble and I'm sure Jack's family are very proud he has his own trophy too. Both men deserve this honour for great things they did in their days. When you look at the likes of Ferguson, Barba, etc and the headlines their antics generate, it makes me envious of what must have been more dignified gentlemanly times.
